Summary: Not especially impressed except ...
Comment: This device is okay for sharpening knives if you don't mind a fairly coarse 'stone' (actually diamond coated steel) on your blades. I've used it on a couple of pen knives and it's more of a pre-sharpener or gentle grinder than a fine hone. This was a bit disappointing since it specifically says it hones the blade as well. Not in my opinion! However it does seem to keep a fairly constant angle - the biggest problem when sharpening.

... but I bought this for one job only and that was touching up the edge of Japanese swords. It really is excellent for this. Because it keeps a constant angle and because it's fairly coarse it mananges a decent edge for a sword - and it would be very difficult (for me) to keep a sword at a constant angle on a stone for very much of its length.

I certainly won't be using it on my kitchen knives. I'm sure knives seem sharp after using it but only because they are slightly serrated because it's (as I keep saying ) a bit coarse.

Comment: Having struggled to keep an expensive set of knives sharp for ages, this tool has been invaluable. I say throw away all your electric sharpeners, steels and ceramic wheeled sharpeners(believe me, I have them all) and get the one that works the best, the knife edges seem to stay sharp longer too.

Comment: Keeping knives sharp is a tricky pastime without expensive electric tools - I've just bought this to go with a set of Global knives and I have to say I'm deeply impressed - it even managed to restore decent cutting edges to several old and dull knives I had. Easy to use, very neatly designed and does exactly what it says it will do - it sharpens and keeps knives sharp. Highly recommended.
