o2 Sensor question...
I have recently replaced my exhaust, Cat and mid pipe and as part of that I removed the o2 sensor. When I then ran the car (for at least a couple of days) I hadn't realised that I had forgot to reinstall the o2 sensor...
What worries me a little bit is that the car didn't pick up that it was missing? So what I'm asking is if anyone can shed any light on this? - is this normal or has it been bypassed or possibly has a fault (the sensor is new also).
Thanks in advance.

Re: o2 Sensor question...
I'm new to the MR-2, but in my experience with other (mainly American) cars, I would suggest that most vehicles will still run with certain sensors missing, lambda (O2) sensor being one of them.
Obviously it won't be optimal, as the lambda sensor is there to inform the ECU/PCM/control module of the gas quality (presence/lack of oxygen and at what level in this case), so without it, the engine systems will probably run rougher/less efficiently.
I wouldn't worry too much about a few days of use without one, as long as you've replaced it now, and no codes have thrown, I'm sure you're in the clear.

Re: o2 Sensor question...
Thanks, Whisperhead.
I was more concerned that the car didn't seem to know that it was missing. I would have expected it to throw up a code to say it was not there/broken, obviously not.
I'm also aware that on it's recent MOT the emissions barely passed and that was with a long drive just before, full service, new exhaust and new cat and so I can't help but think that it may be to do with a Sensor that is not being utilised?

Re: o2 Sensor question...
Wouldn’t the car be really loud with the O2 sensor missing? Or do you mean you didn’t unplug it?
Have you checked ECU codes?

Re: o2 Sensor question...
Yes, it was left plugged in to the pipe but disconnected electrically/coms wise. I haven't checked the codes yet tbh as not done it before so will need to read up on how that is done. With my Mk3 it is simple with an OBDII but am aware that won't work on the Mk2. Is there a plug in device available that I can use?
Thanks Al

No plug in device is available, but KY2 is your friend https://mr2oc.co.uk/know-your-2/mk2/mk2 ... codes.html
