Turbo LSD driveshafts.

Post by Gazza_DJ » 30/07/17 19:00

It just doesn't end! Discovered some broken splines on the long driveshaft for my turbo swap.

Only need the long driveshaft, the short one should be OK with new boots.

Must be LSD.

ABS preferred, but by no means required.

I'm curious to what caused the broken splines. Not something which would normally occur unless your making 600+whp.

BTW have you installed the upgraded CV axle cages? Might be something worth doing at same time. Usually this is the weak link in the chain.

No idea. Damage doesn't look like 'power' damage either really. I'll post a photo in a bit.

No budget left for upgraded parts here, and definitely not required as I'll never take it over 300whp. Even that is unlikely!

Hi Gaz,

Chris Wood is exchanging the e153 gearbox from his 2GR for a n/a box. He's having an extended 5th and LSD fitted by Paddy Chambers as we speak but the lot including driveshafts will be available once the the modded n/a gearbox is back with him.

Give him a shout on here TB or FB or PM me and I'll give you his number if you're interested.

That spline looks very odd, sort of like its been crushed from an alignment issue. I'd try and find the cause before refurbishing the axle. Might be from a worn or broken CV joint or the carrier bearing. If you can't find a replacement I'd bring into a machine shop as I'm fairly certain they would be able to repair.

Replacement of CV axle cages is not expensive and I highly recommend. I bought a full kit from CRW for around $110USD which included everything required (cage, bearings, seal, outer can, boot and grease) for both sides.

Link to a set that cheap? The upgrade kit is 175USD , and looking at the picture that only does two CV's out of the four? https://twosrus.com/catalog/product_inf ... ts_id=1118

Having trouble posting replies for some reason. Third attempt now.

Looked for my links to CV joint kits and all were dead. Found the following thread in US forum on special rates on CRW S1 kits. This is all the parts required as don't need whole joint assembled unless you don't want to get hands dirty.

Contact Josh at CRW through email for a price. If he still has multiple sets he will probably do a deal especially if you buy a few and unload to some friends.

Any questions, just ask.
