New to MR2 need some help

Post by 300JC » 05/02/18 14:50

Hi all,
Im new to owning an mr2. I picked up this MK2 recently that needs a little tlc before it goes back on the road. Its has the t bar roof and leather interior.
Before i pick up the spanners though im a bit confused by all the revision talk.
my car shows as a 1999 car possibly first registered in 2000.... But it seems to have the wrong spoiler and wheels for it to be a rev 5 which i assume it is by its year of production.
Any help in working out whats going on with it would be great. ID also be intested in a rough value for the car just for insurance purposes.
Thanks Jack

this is whats confusing me with all the different parts, the gear knob looks like it had red stitching but its faded now but nothing else inside has red stitching.
I was told it was a rev 5 by the previous owner but i imagine hes going on year, Ill go out and have a look for the vin number.

Thanks for the help. Going by the vin number is a uk rev 4. that solves that problem, slightly dissapointed it isnt a rev 5 like i was told but hey ho

The body colour suggests its possibly a Rev 3 and the spoiler could be too. The rear lights and centre panel are rev 1 or 2 which seems rather odd.
The best way to get it accurately dated is by the Vin Number as you have done.

The front ones are wrong for a Rev 4/Rev 5 too...
Should be clear.

Another reason it can't be a Rev 5.
It's Goodwood Green (Dark Emerald Pearl 6M1).
That colour wasn't used on the final version.
http://www.mr2oc.co.uk/forums/198/138417.html

It has UK style plates front and rear plus a UK rear bumper.
Another clue is the blanking cover below the door catch.
JDM import have the release spring levers.

Registration dates on imports (turbos and G-Ltds) can sometimes be a tad flaky.
But on a UK car? I doubt it.

What is the date of first registration on the V5C? (Section 4 item B).
T prefix registration dates are 1st March 1999 – 31st August 1999
On a Rev 4? Whichever way you slice it, something doesn't add up.
If you're not living life on the edge, you're taking up too much room!

If you PM me the VIN number I can find out the month/year it was built and whether it's UK or import
Black is not a colour ! .... Its the absence of colour
