the tube the barrel is in can be removed from the coloum, so removing the lock also.
just drill out the 2 bolt heads.

it must have been bypassed or disabled. My old Saab 9-3 had a steering lock like any other car, just the key didn't go anywhere near the column. was a 1999, had one of them big steering wheel cover clamp style security locks and was forever making the steering lock engague.
Lots of stuff on the Saab forums about the steering lock malfunctioning back in the day.

Which Saab do you have? Maybe the older ones didn't have a locking device?

That looks like a fun piece of kit!
Hopefully i can get it going this weekend, need to learn the basics of wiring haha!
