Passenger Window Motor
Having replaced my T Bar seals on passenger side, to finally resolve a leak, when I put the electric window up, it slows to a halt about 5mm from top when door is closed. Upon opening door, and releasing pressure on rubbers, the window goes to the top, allowing complete seal.
I have tried greasing seals to no avail.
Toyota have advised me the motor appears weak, but sadly the motor is now discontinued.
Any ideas how to go about buying a replacement, second hand motor, that isn’t in the same condition of my existing, and therefore wasting my money.
Any thoughts would be appreciated, Thanx

Re: Passenger Window Motor
Bear in mind that your Toyota dealer might be talking "censored" ! I wouldn't be sure the current technicians understand how the circuit operates. If you look at the electrical circuit there are no limit switches to stop the motor at the up or down position, so how does it know when to stop the motor ?
In normal operation the windows stops at the up (or down) position by monitoring the motor current which will rise when the window is fully up ( or down) this is also part of the safety circuit that stops the window in case something (hand, arm, head etc) stops the window travel. In theory if you stick your hand on the window and power it up it will stop before it cuts your fingers off. DON'T TRY IT !
It sounds to me like the replacement seals are exerting to much pressure and tripping the circuit before the window is fully up, hence if you open the door the window will go fully up.
You could test the theory by applying voltage directly to the motor (disconnect the connector at the motor first) and see if the window goes fully up - be ready to remove the voltage as you could damage the motor or mechanism if it stalls out. I seem to remember that there some adjustment possible to the actual window position when up, I have a vague recollection of reading something in the BGB.
EDIT
Look in the 1993 SW20 Repair Manual section BO-24 onwards (page 1929) for the window adjustment details. If you don't have it you can download a copy from the Downloads section here https://mr2oc.co.uk/downloads/technical-stuff/mk2.html

Re: Passenger Window Motor
Wow Jimi,
Thanx for your reply - detailed, but absolutely makes sense.
Sadly, I'm not too technical myself, regarding possibility of taking door card off and making those adjustments but do you know of any MR2 Specialists in Essex area that would be up for the job if I paid them?
Thanx Again

Re: Passenger Window Motor
I'm not saying it is that, only that it could be, but it's well worth getting it checked out.
Can't help with a specialist but one of the South East members may well know of someone reliable
