How long left?

Post by ayresyboy » 04/02/20 7:49

So..... the government doesn't wasn't the sale of new petrol/diesel/hybrid cars after 2035, perhaps sooner. This is to meet zero carbon emissions goals by 2050. The question is: will we still be able to run our beloved cars on the road after 2050?

Its not going to last to 2050 dont worry about it.

My prediction for the last several years is that there will be no civilization as we know it left in 2050 anyway.

I suspect that there are a lot of investors with fortunes tied up in cars that will have a word with their mates in the government to stop ice cars being banned completely.

By 2035, the majority of daily cars are likely to be electric (or whatever replaces that) so the enthusiast cars will be a drop in the ocean anyway so hopefully wont be an issue. Getting spares and finding a mechanic may be the problem!

FTFY

If you can find any I reckon it will be about the same price as B&W inkjet printer liquid is today!
If you're not living life on the edge, you're taking up too much room!

Meanwhile, this is interesting:

There will be a fuel distribution network for a very long time to come... unless some idiot starts WW3!

like that..

its "only" the sale of hybrid or fossil fuel cars they are looking to ban, average life for a car is around 10 years give or take, so petrol / diesel support for existing cars will have to be around til 2045 at least.
2045 = 90 for me. hopefully be in fit state to still drive (actually hope still be just here).
Then it will be back to the 1920s buying in cans from chemists etc lol.

the thing that needs sorting is battery technology

if it takes around 15-20 mins to charge, how is this going to be achieved ? if you pull into a petrol station it takes a few minutes, but if we have to wait 20 mins hows that going to work?
either petrol/recharge stations will have to expand in size to accommodate all the vehicles awaiting charging, or we have mass car park like areas full of charging points
Not Plan B again!! Why don't we just go with plan B in the first place?

Surely the more imminent threat is the advent of clean air charging zones?

Driving an MR2 into the zone in Birmingham will cost £8 per day from 01/07/20 and it applies 24/7 and I believe it has already started in Leeds but only applies (at the moment) to buses HGVs and taxis.
