3S-GE to 3S-GTE conversion

Post by MR2Jay »

Right, as you know I have a Rev1 3S-GE shell sat waiting at my workshop ready to receive the 3S-GTE engine from my doomed Rev2.

I am going to be tackling this on Saturday - well, I'll be removing and stripping the tubby ready to have the shell removed in preparation fro the engine transplant.

To be honest, I am nervous about this

Right, I have compiled a list of what I need to remove - have I forgotten anything? Once the shell has gone, I don't have a second chance to get anything I have missed.

1. Drop the engine complete with loom, subframe, hubs, driveshafts and suspension
2. Remove ECU
3. Remove Intercooler
4. Remove loom to the passenger side connection from the engine bay
5. Remove Fuel tank (complete with turbo fuel pump)
6. Remove Front callipers (Rev2 so larger diameter)
7. Remove Front engine mount

Can anyone think of anything I have missed?

So I need to get the linkages from the gear stick right through then? I thought the N/A ones were exactly the same?

Going after market for the boost gauge - much easier than trying to re-fart about with the dash :th:

Ah - need the coil and ignitor too

There seem to be different part nubers between N/A and Turbo gearbox linkages, although I reused my N/A ones while doing the swap.

So, to be safe it would be worth nabbing the linkages as well?

Anything else guys?

While you have the garage space, would it not be wise to pull off everything you can to make sure?

Then you can flog the rest thats left over when it's complete, or weigh in the remaining bits if needs be?

[edit] - trevs beat me to it!

Although I have the workshop, with a shell in there, space is a little tight

Speedo won't go in at it is Rev 2 engine to Rev 1 car - I'm just going to have to convert the gearbox to take the mechanical sender.

Boost etc is going to be displayed on aftermarket gauges. I SHOULD be able to keep the voltmeter in the dash as well

MAKE space mate, whack up some shelving or some hooks on the walls to store stuff. I've got a dining room full of parts as well as a garage full :laughing

Can confirm that the tubby gear linkages are a different length to the NA ones, I bought what I thought were replacement NA linkages only to find that one was about 1-1/2 CM too short.
