You've been busted Andy!!!
Dave had an idea that he's spoken about a few times which I think is awesome...potentially a bit ambitious but with the OC members that are gonna be at JAE there'll be plenty of experience!
Over the four days do an engine swap - prepare everything in advance, obviously. NA to turbo would be awesome, as it's the swap most people talk about and want to do. If not rev 1 NA to rev 3 Na maybe?
Obviously I have no idea whats involved in an engine swap...
What better way to learn that to get on the spanners? There is masses of experience at JAE so we know that it would be done provided the donor parts were good

This has been talked about on 2brutal - apparently they did something similar a couple of years ago (not engine change) and were told that engine swaps are a no no due to the potential for dropping oil etc on the grass.
Great idea - but needs to be passed by JAE 1st I think
Highland Drive 13/14/15/17/18/19
JAE 07/09/10/11/12/13/14/15/16/17
Japfest 09/11/12/13/16/19
Wales runs 14/15/16/17/18
Kiz, between us we could do it. I've done a swap in a weekend before so no doubt, with a lot of people there with experience, it would be a piece of cake
Pete, I could see the potential for a problem with oil being an issue. Unless of course it was fully drained, brought in on a trailer and the only oil used is the final fluid refill?
Not a bad idea but realistically where are you going to find the people willing to get oily and dirty on a JAE weekend while everyone else is socialising and supporting/involved in IKO.
That's if Wickstead management/JAE would allow it, which I seriously doubt.
Black is not a colour ! .... Its the absence of colour
Provided there is a big vat of swarfega (or similar) on hand, I'd get stuck in
There are some of us who are a bit weird and really enjoy communal engine sessions (I'm one of them), it would be an extension to the oc hospital idea I did a few times here which always worked well. Some people learning loads and a good job done on a car by the end of it
But, like you say, the JAE team/Wicksteed might be an issue
I like the idea, however with beer, IKO, hot food and beer, I may not be of much use. Neither would I expect many other would be? Think you'd run the risk of starting something that wouldn't get finished?
I read in JAE rules we aren't even allowed to jack cars up. So full engine change....... your call?
JAE Club Safety wrote:*No jacking up of cars on site without permission from the Admin Tent, we have flat, hard standing areas that can be used for this if required.
Using a jack/axle stands/engine hoist on sloping, and possibly wet, grass would be a serious H&S issue and the organisers' Public Liability insurer would never agree to it.
So it wouldn't be possible on the club stand. Even if the organisers sanctioned it, as above, preventing anything going AWOL would be impossible unless a club member was present 24/7.
If you're not living life on the edge, you're taking up too much room!
