MK3 Roadster Audio Install

Post by ShrewdPhoenix »

So I have bought/will be buying some audio goodies for my roadster. Unfortunately, my beloved Oddshoes has very limited spare time and a tendency to swear profusely at mr2 jobs that aren't quick and easy. So I was wondering if I brought the bits to JAE, would there be anyone that doesn't mind taking apart the interior of my car with me and helping me fit the following:

Custom under-dash sub-box and 6.5 inch sub
http://www.mr2roc.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=47&t=36611

6.5 inch car door speakers

720W 4-channel Amplifier

flashing tape for sound proofing doors (as per andyroo's suggestion)

Autoleads wiring kit

Volunteers will get breakfast butties cooked for them (eggs/bacon/hash browns)

Any other suggestions of items needed will be welcome (already have an aftermarket headunit) :D

That's what the breakfast buttie is for ;)

Thanks Andy, been after one of these underdash sub boxes for ages and just managed to get one secondhand today.

I wear my geek badge with pride.

Flashing tape is OK, but proper deadening like Dynamat / Second Skin / Silent Coat is well worth the money. It performs a lot better than flashing tape.

What size are the stock speakers? I doubt they are 6.5inch. You'll need adapters to fit them. You might be able to get premade plastic ones, but the only good thing about them is they are easy to fit. Otherwise, they are too flimsy and don't provide a nice solid mount for the speaker.

Where are you planning on fitting the amp?

How much speaker wire do you have? I doubt a wiring kit will have enough speaker wire to do a sub and two door speakers.

Are the door speakers components (separate tweeter with a separate crossover) or a coax (integrated tweeter and speaker)?

Dunno about stock speakers, but its got JBL GT0627 16cm 2-way Speakers in at the moment, one just started blowing so thought these would do as a replacement until I can afford decent ones:

FLI Audio Integrator 6 6.5" inch 165mm 3-Way Triaxial 210 Watts Car Door Coaxial Speakers Set
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B003 ... C423YTFC35

The Amp is a:

FLI FU720.4 CHANNEL AMP
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B005 ... 3KOCERHML7

Had good experiences with Fli amps before - hopefully small enough to fit under one of the seats, if not then maybe the cubby boxes behind the seats or under the glove box.

Was going to get this wiring kit:

Autoleads 4 Gauge Amplifier Amp Wiring Kit
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B004 ... BX3BPCMFWA

Don't know if there's enough wiring or a cheaper set would be just as good.

The sub that came with the sub box is a:

JL 6W3v3-4 subwoofer

5M of speaker wire might not be enough. While it sounds like a lot, it disappears quickly once you start routing it around the car. If it's going under the passenger seat, then to get to the drivers door we've got to either route it around the back of the car or to the front and behind the dash, to the footwell to route it through the flexi section into the door. Pretty sure I have some spare though so that kit should be fine.

Hopefully we don't need to solder anything!
