hjs wrote:did you guys do this last year also? if so how much did it roughly cost you, for fuel/accom. im interested, but as everyone says depends on time of year, dates, and money.

We did it in 2010 and it cost us roughly £600 (2 people) 1 night in France

This year cost us best part of £1000 (2 people) 2 nights in France

£1000 :o

I hardly broke the £550 barrier for us two....

Come to think of it, I used two tanks (roughly) less fuel and didn't spend for a BnB and crossing.... But still were you eating caviar in the morning, ha

Oh, I saved money by not buying suncream..... NOT ADVISABLE, pmsl
2 Highland Drives, 1 Full JAE, 1 Part JAE, 1 France Trip, 1 North Wales Run, 2 Dyno days, 3 Karting Events (Current Champion), 1 Scotland Meet, countless Yorkshire Meets and even more Northwest Meets later... Im MR2-less, for now!

If we're heading south, it may be worth considering taking the ferry from Portsmouth to honfleur and then heading FURTHER south to somewhere that we haven't Ben yet........ Taking the ferry saved us £65 in accomodation and £130 in fuel. Not to mention a day's driving......

It was so much easier than driving through France and would give us a greater range...... We could get off the ferry at 08:30 and then drive for a day to pastures new.......

It was the same as the tunnel crossing last year (£100) but it doubles as accomodation for the night too so no need for a b&b.

Going by ferry means departing Portsmouth at 23:30 and arriving in Le Havre at 08:30. Thus giving us a whole day to head south to somewhere new and uncharted by mr2oc......

This the travel itinerary from last year......
Image

The return journey starts at 5pm meaning that we would have all day to get back to le havre...... We could literally head 8 hours further south if we so desired....... That could potentially put us near the viaduct de milau........

Day two could see us in the pyrenees or even Spain.

:th: I'm liking this :) but I'm now a bit worried about how much fuel I'm gonna use next year as I've had Matt on the phone from Rogue telling me he had to mod my fuel tank to get the Bosch 044 pump in it! :laughing

How much further to Monaco or Nice?

Looking at it, the likes of the Pyrenees and Millau may be a bit too far, somewhere like La Rochelle is probably more achievable so that we're not too knackered on arrival and we don't hammer through fuel.........
