Mk3 Red

Post by bob funnell »

Hi ,

I have a MK3 Red edition , the original red soft top has been replaced with a standard black top .

Here's the question ....can I spray the black top red ? Has anyone attempted this ?

Or do I have to bite the bullet and get an original red soft top ?

Thanks .

Welcome to the Club, thanks for your support :th:
I've never heard of anyone spraying a soft top, doesn't mean it can't be done but suspect it's unlikely. I believe Jack Smith can supply replacement hoods in different colours (at a reasonable price) worth a call, https://www.mr2oc.co.uk/forum/42/168338.html
Black is not a colour ! .... Its the absence of colour

Welcome.

I have heard that the red edition roof is sprayed or covered red by Toyota over the standard black roof but I have never heard of anyone doing it themselves. The original roofs can degrade over time and start to look darker and patchy.

I had one and I went to Jack Smiths for a red canvas one.

It's actually Raymond Pugh who runs it now. I've heard he has a waiting list up to end November start of December now :(

It has been Raymond for many years (at least 4 or 5 yrs since I had my roof done) I think but he kept the business name of Jack Smith when he took over.
