Engine problems (still)

Post by sirRhodes »

Hi, my mr2 mk1 engine is just taking the p*** now, I have replaced, spark plugs, ht leads, distributor cap, ignition module, coil pack, oil and oil filter, fuel filter and alternator.
Basically when idling it goes down to 500 rpm, is there an idle control valve that can be adjusted or would it be something else?
It is also very difficult to get it to rev from idle.
Anybody got any ideas what might be causing this?

My daughters Fiesta was having some strange moments, it would rev when gear changing and the idle was a bit erratic too, I got some electrical contact cleaner and sprayed all the multi and single plugs that go onto different components on the engine. The car now runs like new again, it may work for you ???

Have you checked for error codes, and try checking for air leaks. :)

I'm no expert, but is there an idle speed screw?

Have you tried to google "how to adjust idle on mr2 mk1"?

Doesn't the engine light have to be on for their to be an error code?
How do I actually check for air leaks? I'm never really sure on that.

The idle adjust screw is on the top of the throttle body facing upwards.

It could also be that the TPS needs adjusting. This sensor is on the side of the throttle body held in by two screws that are a pain in the **** to adjust while the throttle body is still attached.
