Supercharged import needs converting to MPH
Hi everyone, got a Jap import charged MK1 still running in KM/h and need it converting to MPH for UK limits. Anyone had experience dealing with one before or know of any parts to use? Lockwood are coming up blank and nowhere else knows much about them so suggestions are appreciated. Cheers!

The instrument cluster from a UK MK1 is a straight swop, all you will lose is the SC light in the cluster.

that looks awesome!
Usually it's a converter behind the dash (only know mk2's sorry!) that splices inbetween a couple of wires. Not sure on the situation on a mk1

You'll lose the original odometer reading too though if you swap in UK clocks!
On a couple of imports I've had previously where Lockwood etc. dials weren't available I just kept the clusters in km/h - you learn the equivalent speed limits fairly quickly and it keeps the recorded mileage for the car as accurate as possible
Lovely looking mk1 by the way Did you import it yourself?

Not on a MK1 !parker455 wrote: Usually it's a converter behind the dash (only know mk2's sorry!) that splices inbetween a couple of wires. Not sure on the situation on a mk1
It's not difficult to "adjust" the UK cluster to read the correct mileage (bearing in mind that the original will be reading kilometres so it's not "mileage" )josh2109 wrote:You'll lose the original odometer reading too though if you swap in UK clocks! you learn the equivalent speed limits fairly quickly and it keeps the recorded mileage for the car as accurate as possible

I appreciate it’s not a direct reading of miles but as I’m unsure if the term kilometre-age exists I used the term mileage in a generic sense…jimi wrote: It's not difficult to "adjust" the UK cluster to read the correct mileage (bearing in mind that the original will be reading kilometres so it's not "mileage" )
I have no experience of mk1 UK clocks so couldn’t advise on clocking them, I know on other older cars this runs a risk of damaging the odometer though so it wouldn’t be appropriate for me to advise that off the cuff without specific knowledge of the car in question.

Cheers! I got it from a friend of a friend who deal with imports fairly frequently but they were stumped by it as well seeing as their usual stock is more so GTRs and Evos.josh2109 wrote:You'll lose the original odometer reading too though if you swap in UK clocks!

As an update just got an email from Lockwood saying they can make a replacement dial face for £190!!

Not heard this method mentioned before, how easy/expensive is it to do?PaulWoods wrote:Just put a Mk2 rev1 turbo mechanical convertor on the gearbox end..... done.

It would take literally 2 minutes, unscrew the cable from the box end, screw the mechanical convertor on, re-attach cable.
They pop up on Imoc for sale randomly, usually under £50.

Re: Supercharged import needs converting to MPH
Apologies for reviving this thread but does anyone know if one of these generic ones also work, or do they need to be specifically tailored to MR2s?

Specific to older Toyotas, those generic ones would need modifying.
