Asbestos in AW11s

Post by RichieBUK »

Afternoon all,

I was hoping those of you who have restored mk1s might be able to offer some advice on this?

There is an asbestos caution sticker under the bonnet on my car and I'm just starting to fix the rust. Does anyone know where asbestos was used in these? I've heard insulation, gaskets, firewalls, underseal, brakes, clutch, etc.

Looking at the receipts in the file, clutch, brakes and exhaust have all been completely replaced since 2004. My main concern was with underseal and any interior bits that might have it in?

Thanks

As far as I know the only original parts that MAY have contained asbestos were disc pads, clutch and a couple of exhaust gaskets. Certainly Toyota stopped using it completely in the early 90's. Never heard of any of the underseal/interior containing asbestos.
Black is not a colour ! .... Its the absence of colour
