Removing the dial faces from the cluster...

Post by Bezly »

Hi all,

I will be attempting the LED lights behind my cluster at some point in the week, however I feel that this is also the time to swap over my aftermarket speedometer and put some red plastic behind the new one to give it some life.

I have a stock KPH face coming from Mr.MR2, but how to remove the face is an issue.

I have played around with the vaultmeter face, this simply comes off once the needle is removed (no pin). However the speedometer and tachometer both have pins to hold the needle, so how am I going to EASILY do this? Driving around with a GPS try to gauge my speed is not what I really want to do :p

Any suggestions would be great!!

Many thanks

Bezly

slide the needle over the pin let it come to rest
it will rest about 6.00 o'clock / due south / down.
Mark it on the white plastic as reference point.
remove the needle take off the back plate, put on new back plate and place the needle back on in line with mark, slide back over the stop pin.

when you put it back together don't put the perspex back on.
take for a drive and see how far its out with a sat nav.
stop the car - needle over stop pin let it rest - remove the needle and move it by the amount its over or under.
take for a drive and see how accurate - do the needle again.

took me 2 resets to get mine right on both face changes (lockwood 1st and speedhut 2nd)

when satisfied it is accurate the remove cluster reassemble with perspex front and put back in the car --- job done

If your gauges are accurate at the moment then avoid removing the needles if at all possible. With the speedo you're unlikely replace the needle to within 5-10mph unless you do the GPS trick

Ok, so got the new face through today. Took a look and noticed that it doesn't have a pin on it, however my current one does...

How will I get round this?

I can make a pin to go through the new one, but do I actually need to do this?

Cheers

Hi,
Maybe a stupid question, but how do you remove the needle from the speedo dial. Does it just pull off. I don't want to break it

Thanks
Tim

Sorry, maybe I wasn't clear in my question. I understand about the pin, but how do you remove the needle. Once that is off I can remove the face - I'm swapping KM for MPH
Thanks
