rev 2 turbo dyno result

Post by manug »

hi everyone,i bought my 2, 4 weeks ago from a club member.she had a Japspeed exhaust and downpipe.i added Gts chris mbc and raised the boost to 0.9 bar.earlier i took it to Perfect Touch, and the result is 266 bhp and 221 lbft of torque.220 bhp at the wheel.
tester said, car running well, healthy.but very rich at top end.10.1 AFR.he suggested to raise the boost.now i still got the fuel cut in place and also i don't think the ct26 turbo will be happy at 1.1bar.good result, more importantly is that i got a solid base for more.he said.and i think so too.ahhhh that japspeed exhaust way too loud he commented.but doing his job and look good too.any advice or comment please share your experience with me.cheers'

Good results :th:
at the limit of the ct26, to get more boost to the redline you really need a ct20b and better intercooling.
Must already have a fcd as stock cut is 0.8 bar

Could have something wired into the map sensor in the engine bay next to the diagnostic port

I have heard of rev2s with fuel cut around 15-16psi
Rev1 around 12psi
Rev3-5 is like 19psi

Healthy car, but I suspect the dastek dyno is a little generous, least they were last time I went on a dyno day on one. (Read 10% higher than dyno dynamics, both wheel and flywheel numbers).

I need to look into this myself.
Pretty sure my rev 2 doesn't have an fcd, but it'll boost to 15psi all day long :?

The guys are right though, you'll be wanting a ct20 to achieve any more puff

A plot of AFR and boost is always useful as well if your planning to make some changes.

Figures like 0.9bar of boost and still running 10:1 is possible but probably not at the same point in the rev range. Up at about 14psi it will no longer be as rich as 10:1.

Similar result as mine on stock exhaust, stock IC but at 15psi but the curves are quite different on the modified CT26, Torque and power is flatter and earlier on mine.

My stock CT26 failed make over 10psi at the top end and all the MBC did was create a nice 17psi boost spike at 4200rpm that just died away. Modified its a different beast and similar to the CT20b and just holds 17psi all the way.

Fuel cut is 13psi tops on the Rev 2 unless its been changed with a FCD or had the vac line pulled from the turbo pressure sensor.

yeah look like i will need ct20 turbo, upgrade ic to get to 280 bhp.that my 4th 3sgte engine.few years back i bought my first rev2 turbo standard 100%.
then celica gt4 st185 rc,running charge cooler as standard.decat pipe,3" kakimoto exhaust, hks induction kit and Apexi power fc boost at 1.2bar generating 275 bhp and 301 lbft.ct26 turbo.
3rd one a st205 uk spec,3" downpipe and exhaust,standard air box,but running sard ecu at around 0.9 bar producing 313 bhp and 275 lbft.ct20 turbo.0-60 in 4 sec.0-100 in 12 sec
finally my 4th which is my actual 2.running only downpipe and exhaust.Blitz sus and 0.9 bar ct26 turbo.
so all 3 cars are similar in spec apart from the ECU.the st185 rc and my actual 2 got rev2 engine and lacking the top end.but the st205 rev3 engine pull very strong to the redline.is it really only because of a more efficient turbo?i do believe so because my st185 rc even with apexi power fc could not produce more than the 275 bhp.and my actual mr2 being rev2 will not either.

The turbo has everything to do with it.

I changed out my ct26 for a ct20 on my rev 2, and it's a completely different beast now :-)

The Rev 3+ engines have a better fuelling setup as well with bigger injectors.

I take that back, hit fuel cut today at just over an indicated 15psi.

I'm happy with that to be honest :)

not sure why rev2s got a higher fuel cut limit over the rev1s.

perhaps there are potentially better fuel maps on a rev2 ecu after stock boost than rev1 ecus!
