Mk2 Heated washer jets
After more trawling on the MG forums, I came across a neat little mod they seem to do. Splice an extra piece of washer jet hose in that runs down to the hot coolant pipe to the rad, and curls around it about ten times. Reports of use seem quite positive for those iced mornings when scraping the car on the drive..
Anyone tried this?

So... do they wait for the thermostat to have opened before using their washers to clear the windscreen?Howlin_Mad wrote:Reports of use seem quite positive for those iced mornings when scraping the car on the drive..
Re: Mk2 Heated washer jets
Or you could have to wait for an hour into a long drive like i did once for them to unfreeze? (admittedly it was bloody cold plus windchill). As an alternative, waiting for the thermostat to open doesnt seem so bad tbhshinny wrote:So... do they wait for the thermostat to have opened before using their washers to clear the windscreen?Howlin_Mad wrote:Reports of use seem quite positive for those iced mornings when scraping the car on the drive..

It won't clear them until the stat opens, but will give better results than without this mod. Sometimes I found my washer jets wouldn't work on my 30 minute journey at all in winter.

Re: Mk2 Heated washer jets
I had a heated screen on my company car over 25 years ago (back then Ford had the patent on it and no other manufacturer was willing to pay for a licence). It was great on damp mornings and a godsend when the screen was iced up. My car had a heated rear screen as well.
However it's a solution to a different problem. Even a heated screen is of no help if you can't see through it because it's covered in crud from salted roads and the washers are frozen solid!
£386 is a lot of money. All it needs is a stone chip in the wrong place which cannot be repaired and you're fooked - http://www.theaa.com/motoring_advice/im ... ea-440.jpg
MOT fail.

Definitely not a mod I'd do as my version would be a bit leak prone I think.

Nice one Jimi. Will try this cheap mod when I get the turbo back and test it over winter using the heater pipes.jimi wrote:Use the heater hose, heater comes off before the thermostat

Just thinking washer bottle is close to the rad, maybe relocating it into the frunk would be an idea? Could use one from a different carHowlin_Mad wrote:Nice one Jimi.
