Best automatic engine swaps.

Post by APDevelopments »

As most of you know my mr2 is a Lamborghini Murcielago kit car.
As beautiful as it is. It does not sound right. It's still a four banger with a turbo.
Now I know a V6 is a good conversion and I have spoken to wood sport about it.
The problem is that they can't fit me a automatic gearbox and to be totally honest I would also like to do the conversion myself.
So what are my choices to get a automatic gearbox with a great engine sound.
Performance is not of any interest to me because if I go fast my kit car will actually fall apart
Man I would love something a good old rover v8 in there :bleh:
What would you recommend.

Camry 1mz v6 with its auto box would be the cheapest route. You can fit flappy paddles to that too.

But I think your car deserves a 2gr v6 with auto box. Mega expensive. Never heard of it done before. Don't even know if it fits.

The 2gr auto box is massive. You're only tea option is the Camry 1mz v6 and auto. You can supercharge it too. I can make you a set of mounts.

Don't think they are being actively sold. But if you ask Goldy nicely he may do you one.

Lotus managed to 'shoehorn' the V6 3.5L 2GR and Toyota U660 6spd auto into the Evora. That'd make for a great conversion but I'm guessing would require a lot of work to make it fit. There are a number of FWD Toyota and Lexus models that were fitted with this engine and gearbox combination, ideally you'd want to find a donor vehicle that's backed into something at speed :)

Which looks very interesting :th:

Holy thread resurrection. Just wondering if there actually is a more modern auto box that would work with the 1MZ via an adapter plate? Andy
