1990 GT "Special Edition" ?

Post by MR2DI4 »

Hey, not seen one of these before, a factory "Special Edition" ? anyone know the differences beside what the "Special Edition" has been printed on ?

Cannot see any real differences. Clearly the wheels, exhaust, strut braces and the stupid pod filter are aftermarket.

Way overpriced in our market. Thats more than I paid for mine 20 years ago with 64,000km on the clock.

Never knew there was such a thing as a "Special Edition", just interested to know if anyone has more information or is it a fake ? :laughing

Yep, its a real thing. Not sure if it was dealer specific or factory, but I've seen a few over the years. Not sure what's different with them other than the Special Edition centre panel. The car in your link has a colour coded Rev2+ front lip, but that was probably added later in its life.

There's also a SW20 Super Edition, all of which are G-Limited in SMG colour - https://www.beforward.jp/toyota/mr2/bf710267/id/838320/ - MrHappy62 on here has one I believe.

Any idea where it comes from then? I've seen a few, all of which have been early models, possibly all Rev1.

Likewise I have seen this crop up a few times worldwide and every time it does, it seems to be decided this was an option "somewhere" on very early cars.

However, whenever I search on it, I can't find any information.

All I know it the "Special Edition" decal isn't a decal as such but a standard part of the light garnish :confused1:

Was a JDM rev1 NA. I owned a 91 one which I believe was the only year produced.
Nothing that 'Super' about the model apart from having some GT options (leather seats, premium sound, mud flaps, turny fogs, etc) and a sticker on the door.

I meant the "Special Edition", not the Super. I am aware of what a Super is ;)
