Rev2 Turbo vs Rev4 Turbo
I'm currently on the market with ~£5k to spend, and I've come across a pristine low mileage (50k) Rev2, as well as a 90k mile Rev4 for the same money.
I'm aware of a few differences (+20bhp, LSD etc)
However, I still have a few questions;
- I'm aware the Rev2 uses R12 A/C gas, does the Rev4 use R134a? if not, how costly would it be to find a garage to replace the system to meet legal standards?
- Is there a way to determine whether the model is a GT-S or GT (power-folding mirrors) based on the reg? Are the mirrors possible via a retrofit?
- As someone who prefers the rev1/2 tail lights, can they be retrofitted in place of the Koukis?
I plan to test drive both over the next week, but I'm leaning towards the higher mileage rev4 so far based on creature comforts, the higher bhp, and the colour (keen on original paintwork and don't really want to fork too much out on it).
Which of the two would you opt for and why?

Re: Rev2 Turbo vs Rev4 Turbo
AFAIK it is not illegal to have R12 Aircon, just cannot regas with it.
I had an old R12 system in a Subaru and my gas guy used an R12 substitute (r143 I think). It was more expensive than r134 but it also blew colder.
I imagine the rev4 will be r134 as most cars after 93 are.
Both cars should be Gts if they are genuine turbos and not conversions.

Incorrect - Turbos in Japan came as both GT-S and GT trim levels. Do not confuse a JDM GT, which is a turbo, with a UK GTi-16, which is NA.abovetherim wrote: ↑29/11/19 12:46 Both cars should be Gts if they are genuine turbos and not conversions.

Yes, folding mirrors can be retrofitted. I've done it myself once.GT-S Import Turbocharged 3S-GTE engine with 225 - 245 bhp depending on year. GT-S is treated as the sports model, as it lacks some of the luxuries found in the JDM GT. Cloth interior as standard. Supplied with T-bar or Hardtop roof.
GT Import Same as GT-S, but with increased specification as standard. i.e Half leather interior and electrical folding door mirrors.

Ah yes... I misread! Retrofitting back to earlier lights does not require a hammer, you're quite right!
