Speedometer cable

Post by stewart porritt »

Hi guys,
I have a 1991 Toyota Mr2 n/a 2L T-bar my speedo and odometer has stopped working and I'm having trouble locating a replacement.
Does anyone know where I can find one or if I can use a different brands?
Any help with this would be appreciated
Cheers

Have you done a diagnosis of which bit needs replacing?

Go to gearbox and check the cable is attached at the speedo sensor. May have worked loose.

Next remove the cable from the gearbox end and spin it up with a drill. If this reads on the dial then the cable is ok and sensor at fault. If no reading then go to the binacle and remove that.

At the binnacle end first check the cable is connected properly, the clips can break. If it is connected take it off and spin up the gearbox end again and see if the cable is spinning at the binnacle end. If it is the speedometer is broken. If it isnt then move on to the join of the two cables under the car (yes there is a cable that runs from the gearbox to around somewhere under the car just forward of the gearstick IIRC, and on then runs from there to the binnacle.)

At this point you will be able to determine which cable is at fault.
