Turbo Conversion - MOT Emissions
I'm in the process of fitting a 3SGTE engine in my Rev 5 N/A.
Sourced from an M reg 1994 import, I will be informing the DVLA and Insurance once complete. The question I have is around MOT Emissions, will my car be tested as a GT N/A or will it be tested as a GT-S Turbo?
"If you have a turbo (3S-GTE) model no newer than 31 July 1995 you are not required to have a low emissions test, as the 3S-GTE MR2 is not listed in the DOT database"
I have read the two sections on Know Your 2 which is helpful but doesn't answer my situation, is there anyone out there who has completed an engine conversion that can help?
Thanks in advance.

Re: Turbo Conversion - MOT Emissions
You test on whichever is older, engine or chassis. So in this case, we go by engine date when following the flow charts. This leads you to non cat test, however the onus is on you to prove the age of the engine, and there is no universally accepted mechanism for doing that.
If the donor vehicle V5C has the engine number correctly recorded on the V5C, then that is your best bet.

Re: Turbo Conversion - MOT Emissions
Thanks guys, who would I have to prove the engine age to the MOT centre or DVLA?
Unfortunately because the car was a total right off I don’t have the V5C but I do have a large folder of receipts after tracking down the previous owner. Including all previous MOTs which has the previous M registration number.

Re: Turbo Conversion - MOT Emissions
You need to prove it to the tester.
I don't know if people like YVS Performance (MR2/Toyota mechanic near Leeds) do MOTs as well - as a specialist they may be a bit more understanding when it comes to conversions etc.

Re: Turbo Conversion - MOT Emissions
Simon at YVS is the guy doing the swap for me , don't think he does testing but I've been going to my local MOT centre for about 15 years so I think he will understand when I produce all the documents.
Thanks for the info puts my mind at rest as the car doesn't currently have a cat fitted and doubt my N/A exhaust will be big enough for the Turbo engine.
