Boot lid won’t stay open
Hi all,
For the last few weeks the boot lid on my 1992 won’t stay open and falls to about halfway open. Yesterday I opened it then heard a loud bang and the boot shut. I can open it with the key as long as I pull upwards on the lid at the same time but it won’t stay up at all now. Is it a spring that has failed? Can it be repaired? Any help appreciated. Thanks

I think the balancer is discontinued, but worth checking http://www.japan-parts.eu/toyota/eu/199 ... 7040#64550

Re: Boot lid won’t stay open
Thanks for the replies. I’ve taken the spring assembly out and the spring itself is spinning around within the unit. It has a hooked end and which is not attached anywhere but looks like it should be. Can it be reattached and, if so, where? Or does it need to be replaced as suggested?

Re: Boot lid won’t stay open
I'm not familiar with the MK2. unit, but ir sounds like a pin for latching the sprig has broken. May be possible to use a bolt/nut as a replacement. Might be worth searching for a picture of a unit showing the spring retention.

Re: Boot lid won’t stay open
Interesting, didn't know they break, mine just noticeably lost its tension one day and the boot began to close.
Was a very long time ago as I just bought a new one from Toyota.

Got the same issue on my 99 rev 5. Any ideas? The ones on ebay are for earlier models so concerned they are older and will not support the weight of the spoiler. Cheers
Re: Boot lid won’t stay open
Ended up buying a salvage part off Ebay and just fitted it. Worked a treat thankfully.
