Major issues for new owner of a pre-facelift MR-S

Post by Jim_jiminy »

Hi,

A new owner here of a pre-facelift 2000 MR-S - having some major issues!!

So after a few week of new ownership, having a major service and driving this fab car around for 3 weeks I have a HUGE problem.

The car now keeps stalling, is undrivable. Have to hold accelerator down just to keep it alive. It just wants to die, idle speed is way way too low. It happened on Monday , after driving for an hour with no issues. Started the car and just kept stalling...I limped home having stalled at every Junction / roundabout.

Now when I start it, the accelerator response is like delayed / no effect. Car shaking and juddering. The previous owner said it has been de-precatted. Apart from a coolant leak (which was sorted) I've had no issues.

Any ideas? I've cleaned the MAF, no change.

Could it be Idle control valve? Throttle position sensor?

Many Thanks!

Idle control valve would be a great place to start. Not familiar with the 1ZZ, but the ones on the 3S do get gunked up and stick.

Not often I do this but try asking on the Mr2roc as it is dedicated solely to the Mk3 and may find someone nearby whom can help.

Did you check precats were gone? Or did they change the manifold to get rid of them?
