Mk3 strut inserts

Post by jamieo »

Hi folks, I’m pretty new to the MR2 but already done clutch, subframe, rear brake calipers and hood.

I’ve been looking at suspension and don’t really want to change from standard. I wondered if there were strut inserts available? Had a look on wwww, eBay and searched here but no joy - anyone found anything (other than Koni)?

Sorry if it’s already posted but I could not find it.

You should be able to get replacement shocks from kyb or sachs, then as you say, koni inserts are the only ones I have heard of that re-use the shock body (and add adjustable damping) and then you are looking at Coilovers from a few different manufacturers.

You usually dont find out until you dismantle your suspension if you need new top mounts but you likely need new gaiters at least on the front if you change the shocks.

If you have to replace everything then coilovers suddenly arent that expensive but they are not really suited to general daily driving (to my mind at least).

Thanks for the quick response! I thinks that’s the dilemma. To my mind general road use is the greater share of use - Konis allow for some adjustability but they are very expensive compared to all other options.

I wondered if there were other adjustable inserts? Looks like not.
