2000 MR2 Roadster - Fuel Starvation ? Fuel Filter ?

Post by malcolm gillott » 19/04/19 20:35

Hi guys

X reg (2000) MR2 Roadster 1.8 vvti - not mine but was asked to assist

Symptoms of fuel starvation - ticks over OK but refuses to rev or develop any power - just coughs and splutters when accelerator pressed

Symptoms started 2 miles after filling up at a petrol station with 3 pumps coned off and a queue at the fourth so we suspect bad fuel and / or blocked fuel filter.

OBD diagnostics just say misfires on random cylinders

Assumed this is a Mk3, got a fuel filter and watched a couple of videos on changing this out. I went along today to replace it, only to find engine bay layout completely different from videos and unable to find fuel filter !.

Would like to hear some views
Is this a Mk3?
Does this model have an inline fuel cartridge filter external to the tank?
Any other possible explanations ?

Thanks for looking

Malc

The roadster is the mk3.

As far as I know, the only fuel filter is the one with the fuel pump in the top of the tank.
