Disconnect Passenger Airbag?
I know there isn't a switch to turn off, because this was only done on FMVSS but is it possible to switch it off manually either by disconnecting some switches or fuses?
I don't want to remove it completely, and I don't want to swap a resistor over like I've read in other posts.
It's not essential, but would be nice if I can use the car to drop my daughter off (rear facing) at the childminder instead of coming back home to switch cars.

The Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS)
only applied to US cars

Not Plan B again!! Why don't we just go with plan B in the first place?

Re: Disconnect Passenger Airbag?
I see
Had a look at the BGB I believe it would be possible retro fit a switch to a UK car, the BGB shows the wiring for the switch (page 113 of the SRS section) its a 2 pole switch, 1 pole switches one wire from the airbag to a resistor and the other switches on a warning light.
If you can get the switch an Auto Electrician should be able to fit it.

Re: Disconnect Passenger Airbag?
That's what Mr T does with the switch if you don't do that your out of options or you have the SRS light on all the time

Thanks guys I did see in the BGB there was a switch added into the wiring so wondered about retro fitting one, I was unsure if the wiring was identical between the two variants and it was possible. I'll let you know if I do and how it goes.
Will add this onto the to do list

Re: Disconnect Passenger Airbag?
Mr T is very found of using the same wiring harness on variations of the same model. i.e. my UK MK1 doesn't have cruise control or aircon (AFAIK cruise was never a UK option) but the wiring is in place, so I'd say there's a fair chance it will be there, if not and your prepared to be without the disabled warning light and you have the correct switch, then it's relatively easy to fit the switch into the circuit, only involves breaking into 1 wire.
Even without MR T's switch, it wouldn't be hard to source a switch that will do the job and a resistor of the correct value.

Re: Disconnect Passenger Airbag?
Thanks, I'm lucky in that I work in automotive so can usually get hold of most parts, so fingers crossed I can get hold of some if not all, or suitable alternatives.jimi wrote: ↑20/06/22 17:48 Mr T is very found of using the same wiring harness on variations of the same model. i.e. my UK MK1 doesn't have cruise control or aircon (AFAIK cruise was never a UK option) but the wiring is in place, so I'd say there's a fair chance it will be there, if not and your prepared to be without the disabled warning light and you have the correct switch, then it's relatively easy to fit the switch into the circuit, only involves breaking into 1 wire.

This is quite low down on the priority list as have a fair few bits to fix before we get to interior and electrics
