Re: Completely new install advice - some ideas please
Thanks Clive
That actually helps a lot
So, based on what you and Gaz are saying, how does this setup sound?
Head Unit
Pioneer AVH-270BT Double Din
Amplifiers
JBL GX-A3001 Mono (Subwoofer)
JBL GX-A602 2 Channel (components and rears)
Front Components
Hertz Energy ESK 165.5 Two Way Component Speaker
Subwoofer
Hertz Energy ES 250.5 - 10" Subwoofer
I am a bit surprised though as I wouldn't have thought a 5 speaker system would have the guts for a decent setup
The plan is to get the components together, including sound deadening, cable etc and build it all in one go. I assume you can buy the MDF spacers ok?
My big issue is that I am awful with wood So building a box (or 2) might be an issue I don't want to have them in the boot though as I tend to use every space inch in there when I do a show. Behind the seats tend to stay pretty clear though, which is why I was thinking to balance the rear install with the sub one side and the amps the other

Re: Completely new install advice - some ideas please
I can make you some basic spacers for the fronts Jay. I need to make myself a couple of new ones anyway. I don't think anyone makes an off the shelf set, aside from the terrible plastic ones.
It looks like these Hertz components do like having some power. They have 100W RMS continuous power rating, though this is almost certainly limited by the passive crossover rather than the speaker itself. That JBL 2 channel can do 60WRMS a channel max at 4ohm. So it may well be worth spending some of the money saved on ditching the rear speakers on a more meaty amp. More research required on that I think!
Regarding the sub box - MR2Ben sells a pre made 10inch box, just check the mounting depth: http://www.mr2-ben.co.uk/products/view/ ... -1989-1999

Jay my old build of door comp's and one 10" sub did 128.6db and my new set up will be louder
Yes you can put the amps there or even on the roof the later vibe amps are very compact
It could be worth looking on the budget boomers pages on facebook and see if there is anyone local to you who will help design and build you a box? Also worth looking to see if there is any nice second hand gear

Re: Completely new install advice - some ideas please
Gaz, that would be handy
OK, looking at the power ratings how about switching to Kicker stuff:th:
Kicker 40KX2002 - 2x100W KX Series Amplifier http://caraudiosecurity.com/40kx2002-2x ... -amplifier
Now it says it is bridgeable - Could 2 of these work, one as a pair and one bridged for the sub?
**edit - just spotted it's 100W at 2 Ohm Can anyone suggest a good pair that will run both?**

Re: Completely new install advice - some ideas please
You could run the components and sub off a single Rainbow Dream 4: http://www.carsoundsandsecurity.co.uk/store/dream-4/
2x90WRMS @ 4Ohms, 1x250WRMS @ 4Ohms if you bridge the rear channel.

I was about to ask if a bridgeable, higher power 4 channel could run everything

The vibes I mentioned
http://vibeaudio.co.uk/car/amplifiers/s ... mplifiers/
http://vibeaudio.co.uk/car/amplifiers/s ... mplifiers/
I have also heard very good reports on their 6" subs
http://shop.vibeaudio.co.uk/index.php?r ... uct_id=258
and I think that box would fit behind a seat

Re: Completely new install advice - some ideas please
Yeah, no problem at all. It's more space efficient, and cuts down on the wiring a bit, and saves you a little bit of money on things like distribution blocks as you won't need them anymore. I think most bridgeable 4 channels can do tri-mode, but always check before you commit! The Rainbow above can do tri-mode.MR2Jay wrote:I was about to ask if a bridgeable, higher power 4 channel could run everything
I think it will be good to get a few possible builds together and go from there.

Re: Completely new install advice - some ideas please
I did see those Vibe amps Clive, I missed the 4 channel though and dismissed the 2 as it only did 75W at 4Ohm if I remember rightly....Didn't even consider running a 4 channel as 2 although wouldn't 200W be a bit severe for the Hertz components?

Re: Completely new install advice - some ideas please
What about this amp?
I'm leaning towards a single amp to cut down on wiring and save space. It is cramped in there already without trying to be clever and filling it with more amps than is necessary

Re: Completely new install advice - some ideas please
Been researching, looking about and trying my best to nail the research and I think I have my initial shopping list sorted
What this doesn't include is cable connectors etc as I need to find out exactly what I need (Banana connectors, spade connectors etc)
I think I'm about there to start picking bits off the list
Anything you would change?

Re: Completely new install advice - some ideas please
I would go for a 4 gauge wiring kit, 8g is too small ,I use 8g as speaker wire to the sub and in the sub box you will need an extra set of RCA leads (I do have a crate or two of wiring etc in the garage).
Think you will need more than one pack of sound deadening, rear bulkhead doors and floor.
Another way of mounting the amp
Actually my old amp (I had in the boot) and sub which I sold and new owner had it fitted in the cabin
I have seen the amp fitted instead of the centre cubby box as well think it was in Drew's car
edit found it
