Its that time of year
Well Well...
Who would of thought it 5 years and I am still going I dont think that I ever lasted so long doing anything before in my life, I must confess my name is Dave and I am a MR2 enthusiast
On the 28th of August 2006 at the tender age of 24 I found and bought my first MK2 from a 4x4 dealership in Hertfordshire she was a 1990 GT Tbar in Astral Black I was driving a pugeot expert van for work and had a mk3 golf as my personal car. Driving these motors and then taking out this 2 seater sports car in summer with the Tbars out was just amazing and to be honest the power shooked me. So after the test drive I was basically sold.... looking back on it now I would be so richer if i had just walked away lol but for the tidy sum of £3500 she was mine.
Apart from a set of TSW multi spoke alloys and a aftermarket steering she was bascially a stock car. As time went buy I tried a number of different things and made many friends though the owners clubs but in the May of 2008 when the car went in for its MOT it passed but when doing a oil anf filter change after it it was noticed that there was much oil pressure which in fact turned out to be the oil pump was shredded :(
At this point most people now would break the car and sell the parts off and buy another one no not me I went out and bought another revision 1 turbo for £1000 hired a flat bed and recovered my rev1 turbo from Swiss cottage and dropped it of to Pacific works and collect the donner car from Milton Keynes and dropped that to pacific works and left it with Luke the MR2 specialist to do all the work for me and tell me what else I needed well lets just say I could of bought my rev1 turbo again at the 2006 prices. She did come back brighter and better than ever she hitting 17psi boost with no ebc or mbc boy was she a good
By the time JAE came around in 2008 this is pretty much how she looked
Coming home from a meet in the January of 2009 I hit some black ice on the A41 and went for a spin across all the carraige ways and into a grass bank and didnt do any bodywork dammage luckly enough but ruinned one of the alloys by putting a 3 inch spilt in it I did love those alloys :(
Lucky enough I found another set on ebay quite quickly for the sum of £400 bought and fitted them and then run the car upto WIM to find out I didnt even knock my geo out as the wheel took brunt of it and then on the next trip out the alternater dies on my and I am pushing my car down the A1m with my brother and a fellow OC'er behind my us in his car making it safe for me to do so untill i could get it parked up. This was the point when enough was enough and she had to go, it was a sad choice but the best choice for me at the time and to be honest when I see mr2's looking simular to it still reminds of her
But dont dispeer I will be back with my 2nd MR2 and I was looking for a Sonic Shadow Revision4 Tbar, after looking for ages and even getting a friend to drive me to North Wales but it was a bag of bolts really so came home I cant tell Adam how much i appericate that fella I finally find a sonic shadow that I like but again another friend was there for me that I made though the OC the one and only Doeboy came with me upto the dealership in Sheffiled and drove it back for me. I have basically gone from one end of the specturm being one of the first JDM mk2's to one of the last UK mk2's a 2000 V reg GT Tbar which was formally owned by a BBC Radio Leeds DJ apperently
Another clean example and again another £3500 worth of car at the time in April of 2009, my plan was to do a a few bits to her and and a turbo conversion and basically end up with a revision 5 turbo I get a set of wheels so some comestic stuff and pretty much have all the preformance mods on that you can get for an NA and its starting to look like this
But then I am told that I might be getting made redundant after only 6 months of ownership she goes up for sale in September 2009 :( I ended up buying a mk1 1.6 mx5 which handle and paying of some debts and then I didnt even get made redundant lol. After six months of driving her and still going to meets I found a rev1v6 that i was interested in but as I got the money together for it I sold, by this time i am gettting feed up of being beaten by family diesel MPV's and on the slip roads and know that I still want a MR2 I sold the the mx5 to a tunning company and she is now the demo car for the new anniversey turbo kits which produce 220bhp out of the stock 1.6
So in April 2010 I bought my current Rev3 turbo and been happy ever since
not to mention all the friends that I have made over the years through out the country and been there for and have been there for me I wont mention any names but you know who you are peeps.
MR2 its not a car its a lifestyle choice and..... I love it,
so if you have a MR2 dont expect life to be plain sailing with it but can come to expect alot from it and your experinces it will only be as good as the effort that you put into it and my tip is make friends go to meets and events and you might just end up like me 5 years down the line and still loving it too

Love it Dave.
You are very much right, the MR2 is more of a lifestyle than a car. I never seem to ever think with my head when it comes to her.

Great read Dave and I am approaching my 3rd year of ownership and can only agree with your sentiments.
BTW - Can I use this quote on my sig, Dave?

Re: Its that time of year
thats right Mick tho it was breakz's rolling road day at crazy hourse racing in potters bar in December 2006 and my rev1 had an epic fail on the rollers too.. which I later found out to be because of a loose Jubilee clip on the hose from the turbo to the intercooler (wasnt tighten up at the family machenics after a service), that was my first meet too, what a start to mr2 ownership loltopgun wrote:Nice read there Dave,if i remember correctly i first met you at the Surrey RRday and commented on your Black Tubby, one of the best Rev1 examples i have seen

I thought that Azure Blue Rev 4 was just the project car for you.
Still can't believe that guy let it go for scrap at that price though.
