And thats were it ended folks, tbh im sure youll agree to almost make cardiff was a fantastic effort. I was happy to cross the border and more than a little surprised to get that far.

And heres what was on the clocks.

Image

563.8 miles on a single tank. Less than 30 miles to go and started coughing and for those who know that stretch through newport the hard shoulder gets very intermitent without warning so pulled over asap before it cut out completely. The 5 litres in the jerry can got me home too.

Perhaps shell wouldve finished the job but thats for someone else to try, never doing that again!
Thanks for reading.

Nice going mate. That particular bit of road is horrible at the best of times so fair play to you for having the balls to knowingly ( man thats some "censored" spelling by me) run out og juice there.
By the way what did you have in your car with you?

Chris - absolutely fantastic return mate and a testament to how your car is set up as well as the way you must have driven to get that sort of distance on 1 tank.
Yep I know that stretch of road as well done it a few times and wouldn't want to running out or breaking down suddenly with the intermittent hard shoulder.

Blows the myth that these are extremely thirsty animals - its not the car its the way its being driven.
And that is fair enough as they are meant to be driven most of the time.
But this shows categorically that given just a bit of careful driving over 30 is easy - close to 40 is achievable without trying too hard but over 40 is there if you really need it to be by adjusting your driving style and making sure the brakes don't bind and everything is set up right.

Cheers again all. Yep didnt really plan on running out there but was careful enough not to be a hazard to anyone. Was a case of after the first cough being more aware of potential places to pull over. Was still actually running when i pulled in so no real danger to anyone.

In the boot I had suitcase full just clothes and my laptop. In the frunk spare fluids for the car wich i normally have. Spare litre of engine oil, spare 2 litres of coolant, 5 litres of washer fluid, original tool bag and jump leads. + the 5l jerry can of spare fuel of course and emergency tyre weld. Would say possible an extra 50 kilos maximum over unladen.

Anyway enjoying the holidays so a merry xmas to all and a happy new year.
