Which tyres?

Which tyres?
Good morning
I need some new rear boots for the tubby, and have around £170 to spend on a pair.
In that price range I should be able to get a reasonable quality brand.
I have a friend who will fit tyres cheap for me, so looking at delivery from eBay and such like.
So far I have looked up federal ss595, yokohama s drive and uniroyal rainsport 2's in that price range.
I'm looking for opinions on these brands and suggestions for others in the same price range.
I need 235 40 17, and currently have toyo proxes on the front.
Advice always welcome
Cheers

Re: Which tyres?
That budget would also get you a set of Kumho Ecsta Sports from Blackcircles.com or Hankook Ventus from Camskill.
I've only ever done this with the Yaris, but if budget is important then it may also be worth calling your local independents, telling them your best offer and seeing what they can offer. Occasionally they'll have something surprising in stock, either a better tyre or a slightly lower rated one at a lot less than you'd expect. Unlikely but worth half an hour on the phone.

Which tyres?
Those Federal's are not a good tyre - binned the set that came on my car even though they had loads of tread. Terrible reviews too. Uniroyal Rainsport are great and my favourite. Currently got RS3s all round (but on 16's). Plus the 2 Al mentioned also get great reviews.
Lucky you get more choice with 17's
Great price: http://www.oponeo.co.uk/tyre-details/un ... r#77071749
Wet grip is probably the best feature on a tyre. They'll all grip to a decent level in the dry.

Re: Which tyres?
To be honest, I only like the tread pattern of the federals but have been a bit put off by the reviews, only mentioned them because there's a set available for £130.
I prefer the hankook tread pattern to the kumhos, it's the k110's I should be looking at no?

I've got the K110's on the Celica. K120 are newer but not had them yet. Pretty good tyre. Still think the Uniroyal is better though and nice sporty tread pattern.
I have the Maxxis on the Rev2 Tubby (rear only). Nothing bad about them but not really used the car much. Dom has them all round on his.

Re: Which tyres?
All I've read is good reports on the rainsports, I think they're edging it at the moment.
Actually, I put some maz3's on my wife's zafira, and they seem ok!

Re: Which tyres?
I've got the khumo ku39's on my na atm and tbh seem pretty decent so far. I've found as they get older (9months old) they seem to occasionally be hairy in the wet with roundabouts etc but still usable on long sweeping bends

Re: Which tyres?
As stu said, I have maxxis on the v6 at the moment all round and I have been pleasantly surprised, nice even wear, good dry grip and only lost traction when I've engaged full 'v6 torque' off the line. good wet grip too. I'd have a set again, although I hear good things about the Uniroyal's from a number of people.

Re: Which tyres?
Of those listed I've only had Falkens and an older set of Kumhos (on an Impreza).
If it were me I'd be looking at the Rainsports or the Hankook evo.

Re: Which tyres?
Hankooks or rainsports, 3s are better than 2s if you can get them, usually cheaper too.

Re: Which tyres?
Broadly agreed, but do I remember something about having to check the batch number to make sure of which factory they come from?MRturboTom wrote:No brainer £162 delivered
