Rev4 Wheel Colour
Hi All,
My Rev4 standard alloys need refurbishment, but something is puzzling me.
Mine are of a gunmetal grey colour an the paint is coming off in large flakes, leaving bare metal underneath with no sign of a colour change.
The knowledge section of this website mentions:
'Revision 4 introduced minor changes. New 'diamond cut' alloys gave a more prestige appearance to the car'
But no mention of colour options.
Is this correct?
Could anyone produce photos of Rev3 wheels to Rev4 to see what I actually have.
Thanks all.

Re: Rev4 Wheel Colour
Diamond cut is a bare metal finish on the faces. On stock Rev4 wheels, the sides of the spokes were a darker colour.

Re: Rev4 Wheel Colour
Coming from a wheel refurbishment background, I really don't recommend a diamond cut. They suffer from corrosion rather quickly as opposed to straight up powder coating, more cost effective just going for powder rather than a cut aswell

Re: Rev4 Wheel Colour
Indeed, my old Rev4 wheels were a mess when I got them. It's a nice finish as long as you are aware of how much more looking after they need, and you keep on top of cleaning / sealing them.parker455 wrote:Coming from a wheel refurbishment background, I really don't recommend a diamond cut. Re: Rev4 Wheel Colour
They look good for all of about 6 months tops, then moisture gets under the lacquer then you can say goodbye to the finish as it just eats them from the inside out. Smart, but not sensible

Thanks to all the replies.
So is the grey colour a standard colour? I don't see it on many Misters for sale.

Re: Rev4 Wheel Colour
Both versions above are stock, the diamond cut finish was on Rev4 cars only, so that's quite a small number or cars in the first place (compared to Rev2 and 3 combined), and as parker455 said, it's an expensive finish so many will have just been powdercoated when being refurbished over the years.MR2-Rated wrote:Thanks to all the replies.

The other finish you might see is this:
This colour was only available on the 10th Anniversary cars, 250 made.

Anthracite looks great on them, really tempted to get standard wheels once I'm bored with mine or they bend etc. I really like the standard wheels!

Tyres in stock sizes (rear 225/50R15) are a pain in the "censored" these days unfortunately - there's not a lot of choice!

Re: Rev4 Wheel Colour
If paint is coming off in big flakes as per the OP, then chances are a previous owner did a DIY "refurb" with a rattle can. Not necessarily a bad thing, but it's nowhere near as hard wearing as powdercoating. It is a lot cheaper thoughMR2-Rated wrote:Need to get you lot a photo of mine on here to see the colour I'm on about.

Re: Rev4 Wheel Colour
This is also relevant to me :P
I also have a Rev 4 , and I want to get my alloys refurbished!
As you can see , my wheels are in rather bad shape.
I have run a couple of quotes and shown these pictures to a couple of companies and they say they are Diamond Cut.
I have heard that diamond Cut is expensive and not very durable.
Can I get these diamond Cut Wheels refurbished in a standard powder coat sort of manner?
And will they look similar to how they appear now? (Minus the battle scars!)
I just wanted a second opinion from an unbiased/Moneygrabbing point of view

Yep, they'll just be shotblasted then repaired then powdered. Diamond cut, as above, expensive and not worth it due to durability.
Go for powder and they'll last ages!
