Coilover - ET35 and ET38 wiith 8J and 9J

Post by wenguin »

I've got some new 17" wheels and haven't got tyres for them yet. I'm also upgrading my suspension, and thinking about getting some Meister R coilovers.

Reading the guide here though, there are issues with fitting coilovers with 17" wheels RE: offset.

My wheels are ET35 8J and ET38 9J rears. I was planning on puting 215/40 and 235/40 tyres on them, but am worried now they won't fit without spacers.

Can I fit the coilovers and have the 17" wheels without spacers?

I'd fit 245 to a 9.
Fronts will be close, I have 17x8 et32 with 215/40

Had to pull the hub forward when bolting up otherwise it's rubbing/locked.
2mm max clearance and mine are 3mm further out than yours

so i'd be 1mm too close to the hub, is that right?

Written down it looks that way, but I'm sure there's room to tweak it clear, but it will be close.

cheers, tony. yours is the closest to my setup i've found.

in the guidance thread on here i found:
17x8 ET32-ET33 215/40/17 front
17x9 ET38 245/35/17 or 245/40/17 back

With the 8" & 9" setup you can go with slightly higher offsets at the front and fit spacers & go with slightly lower offsets at the back and do arch work.
i think i'm just gonna go ahead and order the meisters and then get spacers if i need to. a cherry picking of your experience plus the quote above might just find me in the goldilocks zone for front and back :laughing :laughing

Are you fitting them?
Worst case you'd need camber bolts to move the wheel a touch positive at the hub, over spacers, cheaper too.
Just remember if you fit them, pull top of the disc out towards you as you tighten the hub bolts

Hi mate

I've had the same set up as yours, Desmond Wise wheels 8j ET 35 front, 9j ET 38 rear fitted on my old rev5 with tein flex coil overs. 215/40, 255/40. Rear arches were rolled by "archenemy"

These are now on my Dads mr2, arches aren't rolled and the rears are scrubbing a bit. HTH[emoji106]
