 Falken ZE914 Ziex tyre reviews

Post by MR2Jay »

Afternoon guys.... Looking for the tyres for the Blitz alloys and looking for the same tyres all round (for a change)

Limiting factor is the sizes... I'm after 215 40 R17 front and 245 40 R17 rear.

The Falkens come in those sizes.... Has anyone used them? Looking at the online reviews they seem pretty good but I'd like some first hand experiences of Falkens

Cheers guys

See, I've had the V12 Evo's before Pete and the K110's I agree 100% with. Those were made in Hungary and amazing tyres...

Unfortunately the new Evo2's are made in China and have a far worse reputation which is really putting me off. Even talking to my mate who fits my tyres (who are also a Hankook dealer) told me that the new Hankook tyres are not very good

Uniroyal Rainsports 3 come in those sizes. I have them on my 16s. I've had no issues, but can't give much of an opinion as I haven't really done any spirited driving on them. Very cheap tyres in comparison, interested in seeing other people's opinions.

T2 has been on Eagle F1s for nearly 6 years (after the T1Rs it came with needed replacing).

http://promotyres.co.uk/Tyre/5452000433 ... 091Y%20FP/

Those prices are supply only though so you'll need a friendly fitter for installation and balancing. For an inclusive price try:

https://www.f1autocentres.co.uk/tyre/21 ... 1-GSD3-83Y :)
https://www.f1autocentres.co.uk/tyre/24 ... tric-2-91Y
Why the 215s are more expensive than the 245s I have no idea!

They have two centres near you
https://www.f1autocentres.co.uk/findacentre.php

Unfortunately Goodyear don't do 215 profile Assymetric 2s but the difference in tread pattern is not an issue for me as I'm far more interested in function than form. Wet weather braking distance and adhesion are the top priorities AFAIAC.

As for spirited progress, ask peteV5R6 who was right behind me on one particular road earlier this year...
:)

The other tyre I might have considered is the Continental Conti Sport Contact 5 which is getting good reviews - http://www.evo.co.uk/features/15659/whi ... -tyre-test

However there is a major snag. 215/40/17 profile is not available, only 205/40/17.
The latter is below the recommended width for a 8J wheel.

Might get away with it for a show pony or on a street 'cruize' but not if you're going to spool up the CT20b!

I'm on the v12's jay. Very impressed with em. No issues putting 500 ponies to the black stuff wet or dry.

Hmmm..... Plenty to think about.... Might have had a change of plan now I've cleaned them off though . All depends on the response I get back but I might be doing the refurb on the Blitz first, get them looking 110% with new shoes ;)

The falken are much like the toyo, safe if you are cruising etc but reach their limit quickly when pushed, but very aural.
Had them on the mk2 from a set of extra wheels they came on and had a new set all round on the Mx5, plenty of understeer.

ZIEX914's are designed for your average heavy saloon car. Their compound is pretty hard, and not really suited to a sports car. Definitely not one you intend to drive properly, anyway. The FK452's (or whatever they have been replaced with now, 453's?) are more suited from the Fallen range.

Myself, stumr2eye and markandlyn all run Uniroyal rainsport 3's. They are very impressive in the wet and hold well in the dry too as well as lasting well even with full v6 torque being applied. I'm very happy with them.

Looks like they polarise opinion and wear may be an issue.

Won't matter much if you only come out to play at weekends though.

I like Rainsports. Currently have them on the front of the Mk2 Turbo but 15" wheels means only Falkens on the back. Logic is that anyone who drives an MR2 should be able to cope with loosing the rear end, while with the Unis I'm unlikely to loose the front. So far neither. Must be getting old!

Love that post but I'm on 15" wheels and Toyo R888 track rubber, trust me when the rear goes under the right conditions, NO ONE can cope with loosing the rear end so my advice is take your car to a very large open carpark when no one is there or attend a track day and find the limits of your car so you never exceed it on the open road. Yep at 48 I am old, but no longer stupid enough to experience what its like to drive backwards at 100km/hr when your not expecting it.
