Correct tyre sizes no longer exist for me...
Hi all,
I own a mk2 rev 1 (I believe), with 14 inch wheels.
I visited 2 tyre shops today and neither had any in the correct size.
What is everyone here doing? One shop suggested I just use 195 on the rear as well as the front, but I'm not too sure about that?
Another clear option is to buy new wheels. What should I look at? I don't want to spend too much, and I'd rather just have the stock wheels.
Any info would be great,
thanks,
Luke.

What are the standard size? It's easier and cheaper buy online, get them delivered to you and then get them fitted at a local tyre place.

Try camskill.Co. uk, there usually pretty good on odd sizes

Re: Correct tyre sizes no longer exist for me...
Oh great, thanks guys.
The rears are 205/60/14 and the fronts are 195/60/14.
Why have they stopped making these sizes, anyone know?
And if I put some bigger wheels on, would this improve traction and handling? If so, what size would be ideal?
Thanks !
EDIT: Camskill don't do them in 14s, they do 205/70/14, but not in 60. Is this an issue?

Can't be too many MR2s left with rev1 standard 14"s on. The rears for the standard 15" wheels are becoming hard to find, let alone the 14"s!
For some reason, they're unusual sizes, particularly the rears. An extra 5 on the profile would make it so much easier in almost all wheel diameters... but for some reason that's not the size Toyota chose.

Trust me to pick one of the few with 14s on, eh!
If I bought some 15 or even 16/17 wheels, could I just change these outright?
Thanks for that link mate. Shame that they're all budgets. If I can find some new wheels for cheap, I may do that as I always try and avoid budget tyres.
Thanks.
EDIT: I like the look of the Toyota mr2 OEM alloy wheels 15". So I may look for some of those.
Do I get staggered ones or something too? Like 15" at the front, and 16" at the rear?

The OEM 15" alloys found on the rev2+ are staggered in width. Not in diameter. So they'll be 15 all round but with wider on the rear, just like your 14" rev1s. Just look for someone on one of the forums selling some. Usually a few knocking about if you ask around.

15's are becoming hard to come by for tyres (performance anyway) and so are 16's tbh. I would be looking for 16's at a minimum as there are some still out there in 225 width for the rears but not a great deal.
Don't mix rim sizes diameter wise on the MK2.

Nothing wrong with going with a double staggered setup (wider and bigger rears) with an appropriate tyre selection Kiz!
I'm on the lookout for a set of 17x8/17x9 Advan SA3's so I can make two double staggered setups from my 16's myself.

Thanks for the replies all.
So I can put 14/16/17inch wheels on ?!
I've sourced some OEM alloy wheels 15", but one of them is described as curved. And they're a little tatty. Any thoughts?

Toyota didn't fit 16inch or 17inch wheels either, yet you don't disagree with that? Interested to know why you think it's a bad idea.Howlin_Mad wrote: I disagree Gaz, Toyota didn't.

Fitting 15's on the front and 16's on the back I mean. Keep the stagger in the tyre width, but not change the diameter difference of the wheels front and back.Gazza_DJ wrote:Toyota didn't fit 16inch or 17inch wheels either, yet you don't disagree with that?
