Change of wheels and tyre profiles
Dear all the MR2 fans,
I can drive but know very little about car. I have an MR2 1999, I would like to change the alloy wheels from 15" to 16" but I'm not sure if that will cause any mechanical problems. If it doesn't then what tyre profiles must I get for the 16" rear and front wheels pls?
Finally, if I change to 17" wheels will I kill my MR2?
Many thanks.

Re: Change of wheels and tyre profiles
Make sure that the wheels are the correct width and offsets, and you get the right tyres.
For 16's, an ideal setup would be 7inch front, 8inch rear, with an offset of around ET30-35. 205/45R16 front tyres, 225/45R16 rear tyres. As long as it's not lowered too much, you can also fit 205/50R16 / 225/50R16 if you would prefer a bigger sidewall.
For 17's, wider wheels are available, so you could go for an 8inch front, 9inch rear setup. Again, offsets need to be mid-low 30's for this. Tyre-wise, I think most people go 205/40R17 or 215/40R17 front / 235/40R17 / 245/40R17 rear.

Re: Change of wheels and tyre profiles
Top lurking!
16"- no, it won't.
17" - no, otherwise there would be a great many dead MR2s!
I have had 17" wheels (on several cars) for over 9 years.
Stock Mk2s have staggered wheel widths front and back: 6J/7J.
Ideally you should maintain this if you can.
Be aware that many aftermarket wheel sets don't.
Also, check the offset (ET) before you buy!
