I'd stick with 245/40/R17's if it were me. Keeps the speedo almost correct and cheaper rubber. Not that you should skimp on it of course, but like for like it's cheaper. 245 on an 8J rim does seem a little narrow for the rim IMHO though..

What would you suggest having on a 8j then if you think it's a little narrow? As I have 235 at the moment I didn't think I could go wider than 245?Howlin_Mad wrote:I'd stick with 245/40/R17's if it were me. Keeps the speedo almost correct and cheaper rubber. TBH 225 are perfect for an 8J wheel. I wouldn't even contemplate anything more than 245. See here:Gizmo_101 wrote:What would you suggest having on a 8j then if you think it's a little narrow? But you have to remember, more rubber (width) is not better. You are not driving a drag car and you need sidewall stability and the best way to lay down your power per sq inch. An all year round tyre would be better being a 225. Just my opinion.

Re: New rear tyres
I think you would be better having 235/40/17 on the rear with 215/40/17 up front. Keeps the near perfect 20mm staggered tyre set up front to rear.
30mm is better staggered set up. I have run both and 20mm is pretty good.

Re: New rear tyres
245/40R17 on an 8J is fine. Check the fitment guide for the tyre you're planning on using - most manufacturers publish a guide document with a list of all tyre sizes and suggested wheel widths.
