wheels dont fit !!

Post by johntyrie »

After finding my perfect wheels, I now realise they are a bit too wide !! Rears are 9j 18" with 265 tyres and go on ok, quite snug but ok. The fronts however are only 8j but sit right against the spring !!1. Any suggestions for spacers etc. ??

What is interfering with the suspension - the tyre, or the wheel?

bet its the tyre against the lower spring cup.
18" wheels will need 215 35 18 tyres max

need to let us know the ET (offset) and the tyres size

KY2 dont have 18" wheels but you will get some idea from the 17" data held in the article.

265's will rub on the rear at some stage I would be sure of that.
Without knowing the offset of the wheels, it is difficult to give any advice :th:

You mentioned spacers John, that my work but it may also push the wheels out to a point where it's highly likely you'll need to roll or even flare the arches slightly. It's not massively expensive a company called Archenemy will do it for you and preserve the paintwork in the process or you could hire a tool for around £25 and do it yourself.

Also, if you are using spacers-I would guess you'll need around 5mm-then ensure that they are hubcentric and the holes fit directly over the PCD of the hub studs.

Either way you don't want to mess with your wheels so make sure you understand your options and get the ET sizes up so you can make an informed decision.

For 8J ET40s on the front, quite likely. The rear is something else. They won't help with ET28s on the back. Indeed they will make any arch clearance issue worse. They could even cause the tyre tread to project beyond the arch which is a breach of C&U Regs.
If you're not living life on the edge, you're taking up too much room!
