Not over here and as long as you are aware of the limitations in standing water they are fine. Don't actually see them being a huge problem in the UK either. Sure they are better in the wet when they are new because of the limited tread, however with about 36-38psi in the rears I don't have a problem in the wet. Tread is not the only factor in grip in the wet. If you have raced karts you not only have alot of tread, the tyre is also incredibly soft, soft to the point that if the track drys out you literally shread them in a couple of laps as they almost instantly overheat without the water to cool them and turn into the constancy of chewing gum. The Toyo R888 is way softer than your standard road tyre and the tread wear rating is only 100. Sure you may not get the millage out of them but mileage also depends on many factors. Reality is after the tyre is 3 or 4 years old its stuffed anyway regardless of tread left, it has hardened as the elastomers in the rubber are gone from the heat cycling.
I have been using the R888's on the MR2 as daily driver for years. Once you try these after moving from T1R's there is no going back.
For winter driving in the UK I'd say the r888's are massively unsuitable, standing water and motorway use and I'm sure they'd be hopeless when it gets cooler to.

I found the Yoko AD08R's on the mk3 to be less than inspiring in the wet but that may be me overthinking things / excessively worrying. R888 have less tread / grooves... There is a reason winter / wet tyres have less surface contact than summer tyres. I am sure all tyre brands have researched this rather than simply cobbling something up for us consumers to randomly buy?

Winter tyres have a totally different compound from the high performance summer ones that most of us use on our cars. The latter hardens and loses flexibility in low temperatures. Also they tend to have more and larger separate tread blocks plus channels/sipes. The tread blocks can move relative to each other which prevents the build up of mud or slush/snow. The additional channels and sipes improve water dispersal.
The majority of people in the UK have never driven on true winter tyres and have no clue about the difference they make. Those that have tend to live in the more remote and/or upland regions of the UK.

Well all I can find now is those mega expensive Pirelli's or own brands! Wish I had bought at the time!

I had to change the stock size rears for the MOT on my G-Ltd. Got Toyo T1Rs without any issues other than waiting a couple of days for them to arrive at the tyre fitters as they didn't have them on the shelf. Mind you that was 7 months ago (April). The alternatives were Nexen or Nankang neither of which appealed to me.

Will try a few local suppliers see what they can do, I've got a set of old wheels but I'd rather not use them as the tyres are older than TLF lol

Been a while since I've posted here. I'm facing exactly the same: Pirellis at silly money, or ditch-finder Nankangs. No thanks. Kind of glad to see I'm not the only one, but what a pain in the "censored" for us all.
I've sent a message to Toyo to find out what the deal is with the 225/50/15 T1-R. It seems they no longer exist out in the wild, but it would be nice to at least hear it from the horse's mouth...

Sorry for dragging an old thread back to the surface.
Im having great difficulty finding a pair of rear tyres 225/50r15
The options as mentioned above are Nankang or Pirellies which isnt much good.
I have contacted Toyo about the T1R's and they said the size is still in production but are on back order and cant give me a date when they will be back.
I have been looking for some 16" rims but finding the correct stagger, offset, ect.. seems almost impossible
What do you guys think about putting 205/55/15's on the rear instead, the height would only be 0.25 different and since its only a 7j rim it will fit nicely.
Has anyone already done this or is it a bad idea?
Thanks
