Alternative Wheels

Post by Bru_lynn »

I sure this must have been asked before so I did do a search but found nothing. So, are there any other model of Toyota 15" wheels that fit a '91 MK2, e.g. Avensis.

That was my first port of call and gave me enough info to search more sites. I found an american site that lists all toyota model wheel info. The best bet are some Camry models but they are 16" 6.5 J, PCD, offset and bore are OK

Except for the ones that are 4 x 100 ;) ie MR2 MK1 & MK3 and most of the smaller Japanese cars.

Which search did you use ? To search the forums you need to use this https://www.mr2oc.co.uk/forum/search.html
The other search at the top of the page only does the site, KY2, Articles, Events etc

And the 5x100 ones, like Gen4 to Gen7 Celica, many Subaru's etc.

Have owned the car for over 20 years and was never able to find a perfect alternative to the stock 15inch wheels. The stagger made it hard from the start and I just wanted a direct bolt on with no modifications required. I moved from the stock 14inch wheels years ago and just fitted race rubber to the 15inch wheels which was a huge improvement.

You won't find much in the way of alternative OEM wheels, there's plenty of aftermarket wheels available in staggered fitment that fit perfectly though.

Not to mention the Avensis... :)

AFAIK the only OEM Toyota ones that even come close are from a 1986/87/88 Gen III Supra 3.0 Turbo.
Downsides are the rears are 6.5J, not 7.0J and the offsets (front and rear) are ET50, not ET45.

Yep, Mk4 Supra would also fit but both would need spacers to fix the offset issue.

Quite, but the OP's question was this.
Bru_lynn wrote: 21/09/20 15:06 So, are there any other model of Toyota 15" wheels that fit a '91 MK2, e.g. Avensis.
The Gen IV (A80) Supra 3.0 came with staggered 16s (7J front, 9J rear, both ET37).
The 3.0 Turbo version with staggered 17s (8J front, 9.5J rear, both ET50).

Moving the goalposts changes the game. ;)

Like what ? I never found any that had perfect fitment let alone ones that I actually liked.

What I really would have wanted is exactly the same as the stock 15inch but in 17inch that allowed you to use more up to date tyre sizes. The rolling diameter of the stock 15inch is small so 17inch is the limit without it affecting your gearing. I think I did see a perfect set once, from memory they were bronze in colour and possibly made by Oz Racing or .Com racing or something like that, but of course as rare as hens teeth now and long since discontinued. Surprising really that nobody setup for selling the perfect set of wheel, I guess the car was too old by the time 17inch wheels became mainstream.

If your definition of perfect fit is a 17inch with the same width and offset as standard wheels then we fundamentally disagree on what constitutes a perfect fit.

Still, you can order a set of two piece Work wheels in a few different styles that will meet those requirements, the most popular being the S1R. As it is a welded two piece design, they can be made to pretty much any offset you want.
