dgh938peg was it a black Saab 93 Turbo with tinted windows and alloys?? If so i know the guy and that car is tuned to hell and all the trim+seats have been stripped out.

Checked my fault codes now and is 52 which is one of the knock sensors so i'm guessing the timing being out would be enough to cause this. will chek it out properly tomorrow MYSELF.
HM has told me it will dramatically reduce my flamage

I missed that!
If we ever go again to that location (although I doubt it now we've been there, we'd want to go somewhere else for future trips abroad), I think it'd be best to get there really early in the morning before there is any traffic around, and preferably not on a Sunday because you know that is probably the day most car clubs turn up there, hence the day the French guy is probably there the most .
