The Fast Show 21st March (non-MR2 content!)
Well, owing to popular demand I thought I'd put a thread up with some pics and vids from the Fast Show at Santa Pod last month. Disclaimer: I was there with FDUK, an RX-7 club, so most of the pics are rotary based. Hopefully we're all good petrolheads and you guys and girls will appreciate them anyway
Anyway, the show itself for those who've never been is a wee bit chavvy and M*x P*wer for my tastes tbh, plenty of baseball-capped yooofs in Henley gear, but what the hell, the cars are good. We had to go because it's the first round of the HKS Drag Series http://www.japdragseries.co.uk/ , and it's just stuffed with rotary-powered mates this year. Plus, the Hiroshima Power MR2 of Roy Ashby is usually goods for an awe-inspiring wheelie or two Anyway, enough chatter, pics......bear with me, this may take a bit of link pasting.........
Wretched organisation/marshalling, the queue to get in took about an hour and a half, being pretty much stationary from the T-junction at Woolaston
Still, at least I had a good view...Di's FEED-equipped RX-7 is one of the best in the country
The FDUK stand, I know I'm biased but certainly just about the best there Mine's the red(ish) one...yes, my RX-7s slightly pink, just like my MR2 hahaha
This is Ed's car, just indescribably good, with every single part on it selected to be the best it can be. He's just put new Speed Star wheels on it, shudder to think how much they alone cost with custom fitment, but even he got a bit shy about the cost hahaha. Reckon two grand? maybe?
Ed was getting some pics done by a photographer for Japanese Performance on the day so hopefully it'll get the mag feature it deserves soon

A few detail pics of various groovy trick parts, it's all in the detail apparently
For example, my mate Adam got an idler pullet set from Pineapple Racing to enable him to delete the big, heavy airpump that's no use once you lose the exhaust cat...and they care enough to machine little tiny rotors into the pulley wheel face! Now, if only all aftermarket manufacturers paid attention to detail like that
Carbon FEED (Fujita Engineering) Plenum cover and doorhandles...mmmmmm
Efini RX-7 logo-machined brake fluid cap....any chance, Mr Steelman? ......
This one's mine...be nice when I can afford to get the new bonnet sprayed to match
Anyway, there were some other cars besides Rexes there...
Bonkers mad cockpit on a mate's Trevor
Superb windowed clutch cover on a drag Hayabusa bike

Nice pics Nik Rx7's are pretty much the only car that can pull off the big gay wings. I'm not a fan of the big wings in general but I'd have one on a rex any day!
These pics aren't helping my bank account! I'd love to an RX7 at some point next year, I best get saving!

...and some of the rotary racers. This is Mr James Willday, finally got a nine second run he's been so close to for a couple of years.....in a car that's still street legal and he drives to races, despite being around 120 dB at idle and having a parachute hanging off the back. Hardcore
Nothing under the bonnet but tiny engine, massive turbo, massive intercooler, massive rad, the end
This is Mark Salem (Blitzboy)'s Piston Killa RX-7, an evil hard looking sod of a car that's not far behind James and managed to make it an all-rotary final in the Street clas, just losing out to James in the last section of the quarter
Quality "Japlish-Engrish" translation, only genuine R-Magic parts have such funny stickers
Mr Chris Impey's Pro class RX-7, the fastest RX-7 in Europe.....nuff said. Nearly had a massive crash when he veered into the other lane and the car there span taking avoiding action, miraculously they avoided each other but the Ibiza (don't laugh, it's quick) went into the wall sadly
And finally, Gary Gooding's Factory Modified class RX-7, this car is just gorgeous, always immaculately presented and was a show car before Gary got the dragging bug.
Sadly, Gary too fell victim to poor track conditions that day, getting a wild tankslapper on after the quarter, and unfortunately hitting the wall.....hard (after a 134mph terminal hard)....sad sad end to one of the best RX-7s in the world, literally

Good vid's Nik
That Chevvy truck is a monster aint it?
Had a good look at it @ the V6 Santa Pod day up close - the sheer size of it and the fact it's road legal is mental
Some good looking 7's there - always had a soft spot for them

I love that Chevy truck, it's just mad. I had a good long chat with the owner at the Retro Show last year, and he said a good part of the motivation for building it was just to make people laugh. I think he's selling himself short though, some of the engineering under the bonnet is well impressive, and it runs like eleven second quarters, which is just alarming .
The only shame of the day was that all the tubbed comp cars had major moments, raising serious questions about the quality and safety of the track prep. Bradshaw and Goodings car were written off to all intents, so they're understandably upset. There was torrential rain for days before, and the organisers were still letting chavs in Corsa come out of the parking fields drenched in mud and gravel, then RWYB like a 27 second pass dropping cack all up the strip Not a great mix with full-on tubbed comp cars also running

Yeah know what you mean - sometimes the conditions they let you run in are shocking. It's like they are only bothered about getting the sign on fees sometimes.Nik da Greek wrote:I love that Chevy truck, it's just mad. Thanks for the comments, guys.
Craig, sorry dude missed your post there earlier. I like a BGW on RX's but it has to have the right mods to match, they look weird on stock bodies IMHO. Just buy one, mate and damn the expense, you'll not regret it. It will break and it will infuriate you beyond belief but the days when it's all working right there's nothing like an FD on song. Trouble is, with mine especially, the days when it's working wrong happen all too often hahaha. Never been a better time to buy though, prices are stupidly low just now.
Jay, that's a top motor alright dude. Like I said, fastest rotary in Europe with a 8.7something, once he stopped breaking Jericho boxes and moved to something tougher http://www.rxmotors.co.uk/Sponsered-car ... pey-videos Awesome piece of engineering, and all this froma 1.3 litre engine
