Antrim Coast run & BBQ Sunday 2nd June 2013

Post by 3913mark »

This year we’ll bring back the BBQ to the coast run. This will be a burger and a couple of sausages each with baps! Ricky and I will bring all the food, BBQs, but please bring a couple of quid per head to cover our costs. We’ll have the BBQ in the cave at Ballintoy Harbour just in case it rains.

We’ll start by meeting in Portrush at Ramore Head car park. You get to this by driving down past Barrie’s amusements towards the harbour. When you head uphill at the harbour, bear left. This will take you past the tennis courts and into Ramore car park.

The route is https://maps.google.co.uk/maps/ms?msid= ... 92a5&msa=0

Timings:

1130 Meet at Ramore car park
1200 Depart
1230 Ballintoy harbour for BBQ
1400 Depart
1500 Short stop (toilet) at Glenarm. Car park on left at seafront just before the bridge.
1520 Depart
1550 Up through Ballycarry, head over the hills to Carrick
1600 Run ends in Carrick – plenty of places to eat if you want dinner e.g. Papa Brown’s!

Would it not better starting from Carrickfergus instead of everyone driving the whole way to Portrush to meet up ? The coast road from Portrush round to Benone beach is a good run as well, you can do a loop back round to Coleraine via backroads.

The problem with starting in Carrick and heading North is that there's nowhere for a BBQ if it rains, until you get to Ballintoy which makes it quite late in the afternoon. You can't avoid a long drive at one end or the other. We'll maybe do Northbound next year.

We talked about a run out past Benone last year but never got round to it due to low numbers at other runs. If you want to do one, plan a route on google maps and post the event in this forum. Just try not to make it too close to other events!

That's a fair point, there's a long drive either way. Not sure about a separate Benone run, it's not a long route so wouldn't really be worth while though there's a couple of good picnic areas along the route before you reach Downhill beach:

If we get good turn out at the other events we can maybe propose this for October. :th:

I'm still not convinced starting at Portrush is the way to go, especially for any mr2.ie drivers that may join us. Everyone's basically driving to the furthest away point on the run before meeting up, am i the only one that thinks that's a bit odd :confused1:
