Kph too mph... Help please

Hello there everybody! I am new here and came her for the reasons of I need questions answered about my mr2 I have recently bought. It's a K- reg 1993 model I don't know what mrk it is or "rev"?

But the main thing I don't like is the speedo in kph is this because its a jap import? If so how do I go about properly converting it? And where can I buy the products to do this? I have checked ebay but I get confused with all the different types and makes! But I do prefer the look of the white dials!
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Ryan.

Ryan it is probably a REV2 definitely a MK2
To be sure check your vin number against this list

If it is a rev2 then the easiest way its to but some UK clocks off ebay (not REV1 as they are cable driven), Then you can buy speed hut / lockwood faces to bring up to white spec.

By the way welcome to the OC

and they should have been converted to show MPH but record KPH on the odometer's

Hey thanks Pete!

I will check the vin plate when am back home! Would replacing the clock to mph from a British one not have the wrong mileage on it and is the gearboxes the same for the imports to the British ones?

Yes it would - but as long as you tell everyone what the true miles are you can zero the new ones. Its only when you try to mislead people that you are breaking the law. The best option is to take a photo of the old clocks and then keep them.

Same gearbox - only different between turbo and NA (and obviously auto)

You can alter the mileage on the new clock to match your car, that's what I did.

Okay well mines a turbo? Does that make a difference with the clocks? http://item.mobileweb.ebay.co.uk/viewit ... 0989368077# If I bought this clocks could I swop the speedo and that would be all for it to read mph properly?

Yes that'll work (I'm sure you can find cheaper though, check breaking car threads etc)

or you could fit a 110mph dial face over the top.

so youd keep your clocks, and milage will still be in KMs, but the needle will show you mph

Thanks guys that really helps! So is it only the clock that makes the car read kph? See how there's a 110mph clock and a 180 clock? Would this matter too? And can I only change the speedo ? Or do I need to fit the dash cluster?

youd probably have to buy a kit, not a single face.
its the easiest less painfull way of doing it. means you dont have to fiddle around matching mileage numbers etc. everything technically is still in km, your simply fitting a different face over the top of the original to help you read mph

Cool so would woodlock or group that ones that do white dials do 110mph dials? All I can see is 180? I guess that would be right.

Personally I would buy an actual clock rather than just a face and adjust the reading. Its only 3 screws in the back of the cluster to remove the clock, it's not much extra work but changing the reading is a bit fiddly. Start to finish I'd say a max of half hour.
