Alarm system / immobiliser

Post by usadauk »

Hi all
First time posting and happy to find you all.
Have recently bought a 1991 MR2 T-Bar which was initially fantastic and is in great shape.
However, I now have issues with the alarm system, immobiliser/ecu.
To explain further, car was parked and locked. Returned to unlock via driver's door and the alarm sounded. Turned the key in the ignition and alarm stopped.
Attempted to start the car and nothing!
Called RAC who failed to find problem other than a slightly loose battery connection.
Car started with no problem after full connection was completed.

Last week same problem. Locked and unlocked vehicle from passenger side (as seen on this site). Car started and ran perfectly, but: .... Hazard lights flash for 22 seconds, stop for 10 seconds then continue in this cycle. When engine turned off and car is locked, hazards continue to flash for 22 seconds then go off.

Any ideas or recommendations through past experience would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance for your help if there is any out there.

Kind Regards to all MR2 owners
Dave

If it's a 91 then that wouldn't normally have a factory alarm / immobiliser would it? If not then do you know what brand it is?

Do you have a remote fob with it?

thanks for your reply Al. There is a remote fob with the alarm. However, when car was purchased the owner apparently had stated to the garage not to use the fob, so we haven't done so. Dave

It's quite normal for the alarm to sound & flash the lights if you don't deactivate it before unlocking the car. Sounds like it failed and the guy couldn't be bothered to fix it properly?

If I was you I'd have a professional immobiliser installer look at it. You may just need a new battery in the fob, or it may be best to replace the whole system.

Where are you based? Actually in the USA..?
