I think I got bored on one of the straights while I was alone and reset my Defi's peak readings. Afterward I recalled them and was happy to see peak oil temperature was only 108°C and, although a fraction high, a peak EGT of 900°C isn't going to make me lose sleep. I will have made glances at most of my gauges, to make sure nothing was wrong, but wasn't really watching to check how they were behaving. Annoyingly I didn't check out my charge cooler liquid temperatures, as that would have been interesting to see how well the charge cooler was coping with prolonged boost. They may well be on my video though, so I'll have a look later. Still wish I had IAT though...jimGTS wrote:i did video it. ha
can make out revs much more clearly over speedo.
and vid clearly shows my intake readings, so....
easy when its recorded
i wasnt paying much attention to anything but my oil temp and afrs to be fair and every now then ait's when on the track itself.

82° water peak and 112° oil that was at the end of the first session. Happy with that. No idea on I take temps as my sensor crapped out the night before [emoji22]

Ending up in the gravel after copse:
https://youtu.be/5ueMmXraEdM
Same session after the restart
https://youtu.be/TO1W5f6LkAg
Go-pro ran out of battery just as we did the warm up laps for the 2nd session - which was a shame as they're obviously much faster laps and completely faultless

I wondered why you went past me a bit quick, now it ties up as you had a bit of a bigger engine lol
Great driving

It was like a little piece of cork/rubber which must have been under the seat - it made its way into the footwell and was getting under my right foot - not good ! Another one appeared in the 2nd session too !!Howlin_Mad wrote:loved the pick something out of your door card and throw it at your passenger moment down the straight

Evening all, just in case you haven't been on facebook here are my pictures. Going to go back to the start of this thread and enjoy some video
Oh they're also on my flickr, but the action shots are still uploading. Flickr does upload better quality so worth going there if you're on a computer or laptop, but you probably won't see a difference on a phone or tablet!

Was great to meet everyone and put names to faces and see so many mr2's in one place!
Apologies for the state of my car, the windscreen is being replaced on Wednesday, earliest they could apparently get an import screen!
Have to say a huge huge thanks to Woody again, going on track was a real buzz even as a passenger! And I reckon your lines were alright mate
I did get a puncture on the M25 and failed miserably when I changed my wheel nuts on Wednesday and forgot to check if the socket size was different, which left me on the hard shoulder for 2 hours, but it was worth it

Re: Silverstone Taster Sessions - 6th March Photos + Videos
I didn't take that many photos tbh... Did try a couple of pano's though:
Should have switched on mirror lock up as there's a little bit of blur in a couple of the frames. Not too bad overall though!

Looks a pretty good shout to me! Admittedly my current finances wouldn't allow for such an event so soon. That being said later this year I'll definitely be doing something... May want to upgrade a couple more bits first though.Gazza_DJ wrote: For example:

I've gps compared mine and it under-reads low down, gets near bang on around 8ish and then I have no direct reference at about 115-120mph. I generally know that the top of 4th at 7k rpm is 120mpg though and thats pretty much what I was hitting...shinny wrote: The stock speedo isn't perfectly linear w.r.t real speed. I've found that if you set it up perfectly for 60mph, it's under reading at 30mph, but if you set it up perfectly for 30mph then it's overreading at 60mph. Goodness knows what it's doing at double the NSL, but I'd be surprised if it wasn't overreading.
I think the max I saw on my digital, GPS calibrated speedo was about 120mph; I wasn't looking at my standard speedo to have any idea what it was reading.
Interesting comparison Can't say the stock temp gauge gave me quite the same level of feedback! I dread to know what my intake temps were doing with a stock ic. Charge cooling and some gauges next me thinks!jimGTS wrote:im sure revs and gear probably give a better indication with known tyre sizes.
on a clear lap i was seeing average 5.5k-5.8k rpm in 5th before letting off.
i cant be 100% on true speed obviously.
mr2 gear/ratio calculator puts it around a real 130+mph at those revs with 245/40/17s..
more interesting i noticed my intake temps never went above 30c (auber intake temp gauge inside manifold). water/meth doing ok. though we did have outside temps in the 5c area.
That seriously let go! now I know what happenedgavsdavs wrote:Ending up in the gravel after copse:

Love the passengers comments 'You know that conversation we had, about urm... you doing something stupid and me telling you' Props for posting up the evidence!
Lol have I earned that photoshoot for my car now Glad you enjoyed it, must be a completely different experience from the passenger seat! aha I'll let everyone else be the judge, certainly not the most consistent in the first session but learnt a lot before you jumped it. Currently covering the first session with instructor commentary for those interestedromford.dan wrote: Have to say a huge huge thanks to Woody again, going on track was a real buzz even as a passenger! My GoPro malfunctioned and lost all my footage from the first session. Here's my view of the second session:

Here's a side-by side comparison of my little "off". The pedal definitely felt softer than previously, but if you scroll through carefully I'm going faster and brake later on the way too:

Apologies for the temporary tack closure folks!

Out of interest where is your braking point for Brooklands relative to the bend indicator and was it the same for both laps?
If you're not living life on the edge, you're taking up too much room!

Looks like you eventually hit heatsoak - you can hear your calipers moaning a couple of corners before and you then ask a lot of them. Good that you had more speed and that you felt confident enough to brake later, you need to find where these limits areshinny wrote:My GoPro malfunctioned and lost all my footage from the first session. Re: Silverstone Taster Sessions - 6th March Photos + Videos
To be fair, the Instructor had me heavy braking 50 yards after the rumble strip starts on the right before the turn towards the end of the session and I could feel them starting to suffer.
Wasn't until I left Silverstone that I realised I had no brakes lol
(Assuming TLF's comment was destined at Mark though)
