Indeed, at least with Silverstone there's quite a bit of run off in most places. May have flatspotted a tyre or two though, there's a little bit of vibration that wasn't there before at higher speeds. Either that or a wheel weight has removed itself. Very much doubt anything was actually damaged as there wasn't anything to hit!

I think the best way to look at it, is everybody makes honest mistakes, nobody is perfect, cest la vie :th:

So kind of dead in the water really.
But like mark is saying, it's no big deal. This was a club day, had it been an open session with randoms then I'm sure it may have been a little more annoying.

video evidence definitely would have helped, ha.

Few moments on my videos where I was approaching silly fast, but you just have to be mindful people are also watching there braking points and don't want to be heading into fast bends on the wrong side of the track which could potentially understeer them into someone who wants to overtake after the corner.

At one point on the pit straight I was flying up to Lee when he was in his low/no boost setting, and he did well to see me approaching at 120+ when he must of only been doing 80/90 if that on one of his laps, still saw me and pulled over. I must of been out of view and in view so quickly he did well (or instructor did well) to spot me.

Personally, I started my video post with 'be kind', insinuating hoping for some constructive criticisim. Lol.

It's clear from woodys video I was braking very early in places and he was able to catch up with later braking. Corner speed in and around the same, but I had the legs on the straight, just.
Haha yeah once I lost boost I was very aware of people coming up behind me. Think my right indicator spent most of its time on [emoji23]
Think everyone was good at moving over on our sessions really, some were even indicating leading up to bends, but not wanting a telling off for overtaking on a bend I waited [emoji4]

I popped the indicator on for a couple flashes on the corners with the long straight after, to show I was aware of their presence and would be moving over right after the corner :th:

Hmm, I started replying to this yesterday, I think, but again got distracted by this "job" thing
Woody928 wrote:Whats most interesting for me to see is how the extra boost your running with a good charge cooler setup is giving that bit extra on the straights just like Jim. Both of you are comfortably into fifth for the straights pretty much on the start finish line and still accelerating, whereas I couldn't even hit fifth by the end of either straight. I believe I'm correct in saying your not running massive amount more power than me? so I can only assume that's the chargecooler vs my stock IC which must have been heatsoaked to buggery after a couple of laps...
According to SRR I'm only 14bhp up on you. I was using a different boost controller setting that probably didn't trail off boost at the top end, so might have been doing a little better than the peak recorded on the dyno. Remind me what tyres you were on? Because Jim and I both have sticky rubber fitted, meaning we're likely faster through the corner and earlier on the power on exit, which could also make a different to terminal velocity down the straights.

Like I mentioned previously, I failed to check my charge cooler fluid temperatures and don't have IAT so I don't know what my intercooling was doing. However my charge cooler core was still cool to the touch after the first session and I didn't feel like I'd lost any significant power durign the session. I wouldn't trust bum-dyno too much though, given you've not got that big kick when you're going WOT at 50mph in 3rd (I gave up on 2nd gear through Becketts... the half a second of better acceleration wasn't worth the two gear changes)

This was one of my excuses :)
1. Dylan and I are both pretty big guys, I know I'm a lot fatter than Jim the whippet with his stripped interior :)
2. I was on mismatched, cheap road tyres squirming more than conservative backbencher caught with his pants down in a tabloid sting. Still quite nice to get a bit of slide coming out of corners but maybe not so nice on entry.
3. My road suspension was showing itself up a lot, it was rather like wrestling a waterbed into submission at times - I think that was what most unnerved my passenger..

My car was crashing around the roads on the way home (forgot to ease off the dampers) but on track it felt soooo soft. I'm on the harder BCs and Whiteline ARBs on max at the front and medium at the back. Stock suspension must have felt somewhat roll-y I'd imagine? (That said, my corner speeds really should have been higher on the AD08Rs anyway)

shinny wrote:Woah there Tony! I dunno where that came from, but you're waaaaay wide of my intent. My point was "I got impeded once, but there's no need to push past dangerously like the BMW did". In fact, I'd suggest the fact it only happened once shows the quality of the driving out there. The glass houses comment was saying on another day it could very easily have been me doing the impeding... once moment on the 'ring particularly stands out in my mine, where I failed to spot a black Merc SLS in my mirrors and pretty much turned in on them when I thought all the other traffic had passed.
Fair enough. Shows how easy it is to misinterpret something which wasn't crystal clear (to me anyway).

Next time I hope to be the one waiting for an overtaking opportunity. It was quite embarrassing how slow I was on Sunday...

All's well that ends well, and there were no major drama's so there's no worries for anyone. There was no one hogging the track or off in their little world all over the place, just very respectful driving.

This explains the state of the grass now then, and why your car looked like it had driven through a farmers field :laughing Great to see someone pushing the limits given the opportunity :th:

It's always really inconvenient that job thing, I mean I don't see why I can't spend the day on here instead ;)

I'm running Hankook Ventus V12's all round which wouldn't be a touch on your tyres for overall grip (Don't know what Jim was running). That being said they performed extremely well I felt for a road tyre, and given my very recent complete suspension overhaul it felt pretty quick through the corners. I don't think it was the corners that I was losing out any time though really, I was using all of the same gears in the same places and it felt very composed. I know with better rubber I could've done more though. Comparing the videos we look very similar....

Even without you being able to check the temps, all I had for reference was the stock temp gauge but when I opened up the engine lid after the sessions it was extremely hot. It wouldn't have taken very long for the stock ic to heat soak as the top of third and fourth felt lacking and given it was being given maximum abuse for up to 30 mins it wouldn't have had a chance to recover. Although we were only 14 bhp apart on the SRR, that was just one pull on the road to get those results, I'm dubious my best figures would be comparable after 20 minutes of abuse on track. If you could put your hand on the CC easily your temps must have been very consistent and near if not still at your best power figures, I could just be unfairly slagging off the stock ic for my lack of ability though. Its just my best educated guess....

Considering other factors I did have passengers in both sessions that I guess would have added around 80kg (DOn't be offended Dan ;)), that being said I doubt that would explain the performance gap.

Definitely be heat soaked the stock cooler, soon as I pit I feel the charge cooler and it's still stone cold.
Even on a rolling road you'd not be able to touch a standard side mount it'd be hot.

Here's my video. Car didn't feel great, felt squirmy, mainly tyres. So only slowly increased my speed. As I increased the laps and new pads i was unsure how they'd perform so all a bit conservative for me.
Takes a while to get going in the video with the sighting laps etc.

I think I held a few people up  but to be fair the instructor told me a couple of times to hold my place for the corner due to the proximity and when out the other side move over safely, notably the Luffield complex and the bend before. And it was my first go on track at those speeds so whilst keeping one eye on gauges, one eye on mirrors, the other eye on track placement and trying to listen to the instructor whilst remembering where to brake and figure out entry speed it was a bit of information processing overload that got easier throughout the session lol

I thought everyone showed great track etiquette, and as said above, people make mistakes! At least none were reckless to those others on track which is probably evident in mixed sessions like that BMW IMHO.

Glad that didn't happen to any of us! That is the most common place to smash on the National Curcuit, apparently a guy put his MCLaren MP4-12c in the wall there the week before we went a couple of years ago and thought his road insurance covered him....

I think overall everyone was very respectful and generally got out of the way of the faster cars, I certainly found this to be the case for me. I must admit my competitive nature kicked in for half a lap when Jim was bearing down on me and I tried to just go faster but compromised all my lines and told myself to stop be so childish and let the man past, I just pulled in going round Woodcote. Funnily enough I had more fun and got more consistent after that!

Personally If I was in the way of anyone then like TLF I'd appreciate knowing as its then something to be more aware of for next time imo... I'd like to think everyone is grown up enough to receive some constructive criticism.

Anyway I've now hopefully sorted both of my videos! :D Links below, first session complete with Instructor commentary and then my second session giving a passenger ride.

Session One

Session Two
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7IQavU3ZEwg

I definitely need to work on my editing skills and get them more up to scratch. Anyone with a Go Pro using software other than Go Pro's own?
Nice Instructor video Mark, mine told me exactly the same regarding track positioning around the corners, albeit I think your instructor was a little more relaxed lol :laughing

There were a couple of sections of track I didn't realise I would be taking corners as they instructed, but hey ho, that's why they are the professionals I guess lol

I had been getting on the power earlier and earlier in this corner (having bugger all torque lets you do this  ) - this was too much throttle too early. I would say lesson learnt, but I did near on the same thing in session 1 as well :laughing
I did wonder how you ended up over there !
