MR2OC Way Of The Roses Macmillan Cycle Challenge - May 2017

Re: MR2OC Way Of The Roses Macmillan Cycle Challenge - May 2
Bare minimum may be the wrong phrase lmao.
I'm planning on bib shorts (yes I completely agree they look absolutely ridiculous) and a jersey possibly long sleeved depending on the forecast. Waterproof shoved in a jersey pocket. Footwear wise I've gone for a set of mtb shoes and cleats rather than road bike shoes and cleats simply due to ease of walking when off the bike.

For feet if wet then overshoes are what you want, bbb, sealskin, shimano etc.
I'll carry a jacket in my jersey pocket. I wouldn't wear waterproofs in may, key isn't staying dry but staying warm.
Ideally clean shorts and jersey for each day, but you'll get away with airing over night so will get away with one of each if needs must.
I personally don't like long arm jerseys nor ones without long zips.
Back to the hrm, I forget I'm wearing my chest strap, I like to keep my wrists free of restrictions.
Not sure what the plan is regarding if anyone is having any partners meeting them or picking them up, but if someone's other half is meeting at the over night stop, they could maybe transport the over night bags and spares.
I'm still contemplating riding home on the Sunday from the finish so I'll definitely be taking bare minimum.
Been trying oatein bars, they're not bad!!

Re: MR2OC Way Of The Roses Macmillan Cycle Challenge - May 2
Managed to buy a pair of Shimano shoes earlier this week, along with the multi-direction SPD cleats.... Just waiting for them to arrive now. Went to Cycle Surgery and tried them on for size so knew what to buy.... Debated it for a while and then had a look online. Managed to find the exact same shoe 50% cheaper so ordered them. Couldn't be bothered to walk back to the store to take advantage of the price match promise
Had fun last night though. Was out on the bike cycling the long way home from the station when I got an almighty bang from the rear wheel.... Snapped a spoke
Put the old wheels back on for now but will have to buy a new set. The bearings in these wheels are not exactly fresh. Made a right mess of the old back wheel too, ripped the spoke out of the hub. Not really worth repairing them.... Ah well, same as cars I suppose.... Buy cheap, buy twice and all that

Re: MR2OC Way Of The Roses Macmillan Cycle Challenge - May 2
Came in this morning to this email in my inbox
Good Afternoon James,
I hope you’re well today, hopefully you’re enjoying the lovely weather we’re having!
I just wanted to introduce myself as I am the Regional Fundraising Manager for Macmillan Cancer Support in Northamptonshire. I have come across your Just Giving page for your Way of the Roses cycle challenge next year, which is incredible! Firstly I would like to say a huge thank you from all at Macmillan for your support, without generous people like you we wouldn’t be able to help people when they need it most.
If you do need any support with your fundraising I would be delighted to help you in any way I can, so please don’t hesitate to ask. If you are interested in supporting Macmillan locally following your cycle I would love to discuss this with you, we have lots of opportunities across the county and are always on the lookout for inspiring people like you to spread the word of Macmillan and the work we do.
Best of luck with your training, I will look forward to reading about your progress!
Many Thanks

It's really nice to be noticed and it's great to have some support with our fundraising....Really didn't expect that at all

Awesome! suggestion - a couple of decent sized posters etc for the shows? I might have someone I can ask to do the printing. Maybe ask jae to promote it as well?

Re: MR2OC Way Of The Roses Macmillan Cycle Challenge - May 2
Hmm, could do....
How about a couple of posters that could be placed on the inside of the windscreen? I'd happily put one in mine at the shows
I'm tempted to see if we could get jerseys at a reduced price. Maybe I'll make a few enquires, even if they only have the OC logo and website address and the MacMillan logo with a link to the just giving page.....

How about we ask everyone on every mr2 stand we do at every show to put them in their windscreens? They can only say no! Haha I'll make some enquiries on printing. Are Macmillan OK with us using their logo to promote? I assume so?

Dom, I've heard back from Ellen who is more than happy for us to use the MacMillan logo, in fact there is a specific one that she has asked us to use (it includes a small addition of "in aid of")
She has also asked if she could share our progress, just giving page and updates on the MacMillan social media threads.....
I can't see a problem there, can you?
