Nismo NS5R wheels
Hi!
So I have potentially found some nice upgrades for the MR2 Turbo for sale.
They are authentic lightweight Nismo NS5R’s that appear to have come off a R33 Skyline GTS-T or 200sx.
Figment-wise they are 16x7.5 5X114.3 which should fit nicely.
Unfortunately they are not staggered and will be a 7.5 all around. As the standard wheels are 15x7’s will there be any issue with the “square” setup? As I see it, I’m adding .5” to the rear and essentially adding more grip to the wheels that need to do the turning business.
Can anyone see any reason why this would be a bad idea? I know it’s not a typical setup for an Mr2 but extra grip in the front can’t hurt can it??
Thanks

Re: Nismo NS5R wheels
Not sure i would bother with 16inch at all the tyre choice must be as bad as it is for 15inch by now. Would go for 17inch or just fit Toyo R888 tyres to the stock 15inch rims.

Re: Nismo NS5R wheels
+1 on 15" or 16" wheels nowadays,
also you dont say what offset (ET) they are
I ran set of 17" 7.5 ET40 with 15mm spacer on rear that worked very nicely.
215/40/17 front
235/40/17 rear
Highland Drive 13/14/15/17/18/19
JAE 07/09/10/11/12/13/14/15/16/17
Japfest 09/11/12/13/16/19
Wales runs 14/15/16/17/18

Re: Nismo NS5R wheels
Thanks guys!
From what I can see inline they are +38 offset.
The only reason I like there is cost and I like to keep the car looking in the classic Japanese 90’s look.
Can anyone recommend any 17’s that I can look at?

Here are my SSR SP1Rs: 16x7.5J ET39 square setup with 15mm spacers on rear.
Fitted with 205/45/16 and 225/45/16 Advan AD08Rs which are brilliant fast road tyres!
Needed rolled arches due to my suspension height...

Re: Nismo NS5R wheels
Looking sweet as a nut on those mate!
Yeah I think it might be worth a shot, I can always run a 205F and 225R with spacers if need be.
For the price they look far superior to the stock MK2 alloys, will be lighter, more grip up front but will maintain that 90’s classic look that is hard to achieve with newer wheels.
I’ll wait for payday, potentially powder coat them if I bite the bullet and post a before and after to see what you all think

Re: Nismo NS5R wheels
Oh - it's worth noting that my wheels are very close to hitting my BC coilovers at the front but they do miss. You'll have an extra 1mm due to offset and might choose a model of tyre with a less chunky sidewall. I tried fitting some Meister R coilovers but they were a complete non-starter with these wheels due to the barrel springs they currently ship with - even going to a parallel spring on the Meisters I would still have needed a little bit of spacing. You'll have no problem what so ever if you're on stock struts though.

That's what I was expecting too... until I actually fitted my wheels and discovered they weren't needed
